Re: Home for the Holidays - $5 reward/$25 purchase I tried participating in the Home for the Holidays promotion yesterday and ran into a problem. I bought $25.16 worth of items that had the HTH shelf tag on them, but my $5 Catalina didn't spit out. I went to Customer Service and the young lady there said that the machines were working as she had handed a few $5 certificates out the day before. (I knew the machine was working because it spit out two ads for me, but no $5 Cat.)
She used a calculator to confirm that I had spent over $25 in qualifying items, and then asked me if any of the coupons I'd used had been for those products. Yes, I said, thinking here we go again. She said, "That's why. You actually have to spend $25 to get the savings."
I asked her if Vons' policy had recently changed, because in previous promotions I had had no problems using coupons. Then she went over to the manager on duty (who was actually the cashier who checked me out) and came back and told me "just this once" she was allowed to give me a $5 gift card.
Yesterday was the last day of the free breakfast in-ad coupon promo at Vons, which I was also trying to cash in on in the same transaction -- free eggs, bacon, orange juice and English muffins with a $50 qualifying purchase. Those coupons clearly stated that you had to spend $50 after MQs were redeemed in order to get the freebies -- which I did. There was no such similar language in the ad when it came to the Home for the Holidays promotion.
I wonder if the registers were set up so that you had to reach a certain threshold after coupons for both promotions. And now that the free breakfast promotion is over, I wonder if the HTH promotion will allow you to use coupons toward the $25 threshold . . . or if this is a new Vons policy . . . or just my store . . . or what! |
