Default Just unbelievable new charges at Vons!

I went to vons today and my son needed to use the bathroom.
I was standing right by the bathroom so I told him to go.
He comes back and tells me I need a quarter.
Me for what?
Him they put a thing on the door and you need a quarter to get in.
First they change the double Q policy and now they are charging to use a public restroom
I guess they won't be happy till they squeeze every last coin out of us.
I usually shop with my atm card, starbucks card and Q's.
I had to send my son to break a dollar bill (that I found in my jacket) to use the restroom.
Is it just me or have they gone to far?
I want the old VONS back!

My VONS in So Cal. gives bathroom tokens (for free) at the register. Just ask a cashier. The reason why they put the locks on the bathroom doors is because people were taking alcohol into the bathrooms and drinking/stealing it. I think the bathrooms are much cleaner now, which is an added plus since I have 3 kids under 5 years. :-)

First of all it isn't a public restroom. I am sure the store does not want any random person off the street to come in and use the bathroom. Second, have you really never seen this before?? I know it sucks to have to pony up a whole quarter but I believe that it is to deter homeless people rather than squeeze more money out of consumers. Most of the stores that do this have tokens for paying customers. Did you ask????

#1st of all if it does not say employees only then yes it is a public restroom
#2nd yes my son asked them to give him quarters for his $1 bill to use the bathroom and they did not offer a token
#3 When I checked out I asked the cashier about the new charges and she said" we have tokens for the employees" never offered any information that customers could get a token
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Definitions of Public restroom
A public convenience, comfort room, toilet room, bathroom, water closet or restroom, is a facility provided to allow use of a toilet by members of the public, or by patrons or customers.

Hi: Just something more we have to deal with, I'm in Ventura and mostly the stores in Oxnard have tokens, probably we are next. I run quite a lenghty route on Thursdays and I know which ones to avoid etc.

I see their point of view and in an emergency I've asked for a token and I've never been refused.

Closer to L.A. there are lots of tokened rest rooms etc.

We feed low income and homeless folk and We love them, but some of them can really trash a restroom in less time than it took for me to write this blurb.

BLESSINGS TO ALL OF YOU AND MAY ALL OF YOUR TOKENS BE GOLD PLATED

I lived in LA, CA for a year and many of the public restrooms required either a quarter or a token. I really hate public restrooms - but I did notice that the ones with the lock device did stay cleaner and had less graffiti than ones that were open to the public (with no token/quarter).

When I was pregbabt with my twins - this was a major inconvenience - there were a few times where I almost had an accident trying to rummage through my purse for a quarter - what a pain.

Sorry that this trend is in your area!

Deeann- DITTO to your entire post. I know of 2 vons that has the token system and I hate it. There is a Pavillions in Hollywood that uses it but that is understandable with the amount of homeless people that trail in and out. . It's just an unneccesary inconvienent as far as I'm concerned.

I have not seen one of those in years! They have not made a comeback in my area, thank goodness!

Honestly, I think that under the circumstances, I would have told my son to just crawl under!!!!

PS - I meant rather than have to go break a $1 bill. If I had a quarter on me I would have paid it.

I don't think it is a good idea to have patrons have to pay to use the rest room when they are shopping (spending money) at your business. I already don't like using public (yes, public) facilities. If they don't want "any random person" using the bathroom then they can lock it and have you ask for a key to get in, but have to pay, come on!!!
