Default Which brand of pickles tastes like real Jewish Deli style pickles?

This is not really about a recipe, but I did not know where to post it.

    I tried vlasic, no go.

I'm looking for pickles from the grocery store that taste like a Jewish Deli pickle. I tried a 1/2 sour pickle at a friends house, the label was red and white, forgot the brand?? I hated it!!

    Any ideas??

I think the one you hated was BaTempe - which was exactly the one that I was going to recommend. to me a giid deli pickle taste almost green and chunchy? Batempe has about a 6 week shelf life - and toward the end they are definately yuck. If you buy, and look for the greenest ones and eat fast - you might enjoy more. Otherwise - I got nothing.

Ahhh - now you have made me hungry !! Not that this will help you, but all I keep thinking about is Harry Attman's in Baltimore. I'm not Jewish but have some friends that are & they introduced me to this place. Best corned beef & pickles !!

I make my own at home and here is the recipe:

    16 pickling cucumber (kirby)
    3/4 cup of kosher salt
    1 gallon water
    2 tbsp pickling spice
    1 package of fresh dill
    8 cloves of garlic

Wash and cut cucumbers into spears, slices, or leave whole.

place 1 tbsp of pickling spice in bottom of container along with some of dill and
garlic. (I use a large plastic tub)

Add some cucumber to container and top with more dill, garlic, and pickling spice.

Fill with the rest of the cucumbers and add remaining garlic and spice and dill.

Mix 1 gal water with 3/4 cups of kosher salt and pour over cucumbers. Cover container losely and let sit on counter for about 4 days. If they taste done enough for you cover and refrigerate. Note, you may see some foaming in the first few days and this is normal.
