There are awesome outlet malls in W'burg.
I will look around and let you know if I find any discounts for things in Richmond.
Hi everyone...My 14 year old son and I will be taking a road trip from CT, first stop Richmond, VA July 3 and 4 then onto Williamsburg, VA July 5, 6 & 7.
I am looking for things to do in Richmond and if any discounts are out there. We are considering doing the Historic Segway tour in Richmond, but I can't seem to find any coupons for it and it's pricey! I am also thinking of the canal walk/James River shopping area on the 3rd, since there are fireworks that night.
If anyone can point me to coupons or is in the area and has ideas please let me know!! Thanks!
We are all set in Williamsburg, Busch Gardens and the water park should be plenty :)

Thanks Lori!! I am still searching online and have found this thing similar to the Entertainment coupon books that is called "Enjoy the City." They have a coupon for B1G1 Segway of Richmond tours, but the books are $20..I am considering buying one of those since the tours are like $60 something! I guess these Enjoy the City books are used as fundraisers, I had never heard of them.
Anyhow thanks so much and let me know if you find anything!!
Make sure to check out my favorite website...tripadvisor .com for things to do in each city. Also google searches are great for finding discounted coupons.

I don't know if I am too late to weigh on this but my favorite place in richmond is maymont.
Maymont Foundation - Maymont - An American Estate
It is free to walk around the grounds and see the Italian gardens, Japanese gardens, petting zoo, bears and eagles. It does cost money to do the nature center or house tours. My sons (5 and 2) love the nature center but at your son's age the house tour might be more interesting. My only warning for maymont is that it is hilly so wear good walking shoes and be prepared for a work out if you want to see it all.
Right outside Maymont is Byrd Park which has a small pond with paddle boats which is fun. Generally they do fireworks at byrd park on the 4th but I have not checked to see if that is happening this year.
Not free/cheap but things I think are interesting in richmond are the Valentine museum:
Richmond History Center
and also agecroft hall. Agecroft was built in England in the 15th century and then relocated brick by brick to Richmond. The tours of the house are neat and the garden's are beautiful but my favorite thing is that they perform Shakespeare in the courtyard during the summer. I think it is kind of neat to see his plays performed in the sort of setting where they might have been done originally. It looks like you could catch King Lear on the 3rd. Get there early to walk around the gardens.

I just got an email from Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens that they are having free admission on the 4th. They are usually pretty pricey so they are bound to be packed for this event.
