Have you TENT camped at the Outerbanks NC during the summer?

I am looking for anyone that has TENT camped at the outer banks in the month of August. We tent camp all the time but in the mountians where I KNOW the tempature is in the 50's at night (3000 ft elevation). DH is talking about wanting to go camping to the Outerbanks NOW...I fear it will just be too hot at night. I think sand fleas are a problem too (or other blood sucking insects)...Has anyone tent camped out there that can tell me from personal experience?

We just need to get away-I was already planing on Black Mountian, but hubs brought up the outer banks.

As a child, and only then against my will. lol! I would NEVER do so now. I hate hot weather and would be miserable the whole time. In the fall/winter/spring, yes. But never in August. Sorry! :-(
