Default Need ideas for hotel in San Diego, CA

We're taking our family of 4 to San Diego in the middle of August for vacation. We have the flight done. We're not familiar with the San Diego area and would like to find a hotel with a reasonable rate near the beach. Does anyone have ideas?

I actually live in San Diego and work for Marriott hotels. Where are you looking to stay?

I'm not sure ... we're not familiar with the area, but wanted to be by the beach so the kids could see the ocean for the first time.

Here's a few links for you to check out.

http://www.sandiego.org/article_set/Visitors/5

http://www.sandiegohotels.com/vacations/beach_vac.html

http://www.sandiego-romantics.com/san-diego-beach-hotels.html

Also, a good idea is to google hotels that you might be familiar with (Best Western, etc.) and see where they are located in proximity to where you would like to stay. Quite often you will find better deals and cheaper rates by finding hotels that are within reasonable walking distance (1-3 blocks) of the beach and restaurants as opposed to being directly off the beach.

August~ San Diego.. "reasonable rates" near the beach

sorry darlin.. i hate to tell you thats prime, prime season in Sd!!

If 150 and upward is reasonable and affordable for you... maybe..

Places you do NOT want to stay or go to : Imperial Beach!! nooooooo, sewage, location.. etc..not very safe.
otherwise hmm:

Ocean Beach (Ob) is kinda a fun, funky, laid back place. Think hippies, 60's..

PB and Mission (Pacific Beach & Mission beach).. are huge huge
draws, hot hot young bodies fill up those places!! lol

La Jolla.. ahh beautiful, gorgeous and ohh soo expensive!

Mission beach.. might find something.. OB too..note its very very crowded! but you'd be close to the beach~

If.. if you want to save some big bucks, i'd stay inland.. and still be 15 /20 mins to the beachs.

La Mesa, is nice.. they have good Best Westerns.
Decent neighborhoods~ central to a lot of things.
Its on highway 8, and close to the zoo, Seaworld, Balboa Park, the beaches, malls, restarants affordable, etc.

El Cajon.. noooooooo

I'm in East County.. other people up in N. county..might know more places.

Any thing you're wanting to see in particular? Ask
How old are the kids?

hope you have a great time!!
Beautiful place~ i feel lucky to live here~

I'd definately do some research before you come here~ see what looks good for you and family.. and then feel free to ask ?'s ~

Coronado has nice beachs, but it takes awhile to get there and see things..not the most convient location.. if you're wandering around~
also expensive~
