I would only vote for NC (at least in the Outer Banks area) if you want to vacation where there is absolutely nothing to do but relax. It was great if all you wanted was a quiet beach to hang out at, but we were very disappointed at the lack of shopping, restaurants, and general entertainment down there. Probably a good place to take kids as there are so few places for them to want to spend money :) My parents love it, but my DH and I will never go back.
