Default New York/New Jersey places to stay

I'm looking to take my family to NYC the week of Thanksgiving. I'd like to find a place, maybe in NJ, that is affordable! Any ideas? I'm looking to rent a cabin or something like that. How far is the Poconos or CT?

Default Re: New York/New Jersey places to stay

Is your goal to tour NYC or just go into the city for a day or so?

Affordable and NYC are not usually synonomous but I stayed at an applecore hotel called The Hotel at Times Square and it was reasonalby priced and it was close to a lot of attractions (including theatre which is the main reason I go) so I did not have to spend much in taxis.

Default Re: New York/New Jersey places to stay

I usually stay in Long Island City, Queens. There are a couple of hotels right near the 7 line- two stops from Manhattan- that are in good shape and cost about $100 on a peak season night. Doesn't look like the best neighborhood but I've never had any problems. Also, if you must drive and park, its usually easier to find a free spot there than downtown.
