Default Another Vegas Thread

I am contemplating taking a trip to Vegas. Although not ideal, I am thinking of going the beginning of December.

Is it better to book now or wait until December gets closer to book?

I did a quick search - it appears that it's going to be about $800 (hotel + flight) for a trip for two for five nights in one of the cheaper hotels. Does this sound right? We'd be flying out of PA.

Sounds pretty normal. I fly out of KS, so airfare is 100 RT each way, so 400 for 2 for air. The hotels usually during that time for the cheaper ones will be 45 mid week and 80 weekends. The one I would recommend for price and great location is the Tropicana. It's nothing fancy, but it's a great area of the strip and when we stayed on NYs Eve, they had signs up saying they were remodeling the rooms in February, so they might actually be really nice now and not 1980s :) ...any place on the strip should be good though (I would avoid circus circus though, it's gotten really trashy) If you aren't getting the prices I posted above you might wait a few months to book. The prices don't "go up" usually until a few weeks before, so anytime before Sept/Oct should be good booking times! GOOD LUCK ALSO, book directly through the hotel's websites, a travel agent will not get you a better deal. Most guarantee their website prices to be the best.

We go to Vegas at least once a year and many times 3 or 4. Sign up on the websites of the hotels for their e-mails. You will see good deals that way. Go to TA Vegas forum for more hints.

If you go mid week you should be able to stay at Harrahs, Flamingo, Ballys for under $60 and maybe even as low as $40. Those three places are clean, nothing fancy. I have stayed at all of them and they have been fine. We stayed at MGM Grand during Superbowl, including the weekend for $89 a night and that included 2 for 1 buffets each day.

If you find a screaming deal and you can cancel, book it and if something better comes along you can cancel and book the new one - otherwise wait until you get much closer.

If you can fly on Southwest, book whenever it looks like a nice deal and they allow you to cancel and rebook for NO fee. You just get a credit with them for the amount of your ticket that you can apply to a new ticket. One time we booked one way and when the better deal came along we were able to apply our funds for a round trip with just a little more $$. Sign up for their Ding specials.
