Is it possible to take a vacation if your poor? LOL

I swear if we dont get out of town for a while this spring or summer I am going to lose my mind. With the exception of a couple business trips in neighboring or 2 over states that were all day trips, except two which were overnighters, we have been no where since 2004.
But I know we cant afford it. Yet every time I turn around everyone who says they have no $ are going somewhere. I wanna go somewhere! I need a little hissy fit icon here


Does anyone have any tips on cheap or free vacations? How do you save money on gas, hotels and eating out?

I know it will still be next year or later before we get to go anywhere but I am going to start saving and I want some tips! How do you do it?

I am really cheap when it comes to vacationing - prolly because I hate them!!! lol My idea of the perfect vacation is staying at home and sending the kiddo's to grandma's for a few nights :D

A few questions before I dish up my advice:
-When you vacation - do you like to sight see or do you just want to sit back and relax? Or maybe both!?
-Who is all going with you? You and DH or are kids coming too?
-Generally, what area are you in? North east? South west? or State if you are comfortable saying so.

Vacations are getting ridiculously expensive. We are going on a 1 night 2 day getaway next week and the hotel alone cost over $350 for 1 night (it has an indoor water park). I was about to cry LOL.

why not come to cincinnati? Kings island, the zoo, newport aquarium and the best part, ME!

dont feel bad, i'm broke, and was suppose to go on vacation in May and all of a sudden everyone doesn't want to go now (which is why i'm not going, i <3 going as a group it's cheaper!!!!!!!)

So our vacation this year, is spending time at Kings Island (since we have passes)

Yea DH and I were trying to figure someone to go somewhere with to make it cheaper but we have cooties and have no friends.

It would be fun to visit HCW friends! You could stay with them if they have room, take some of your stockpile for snacks and adding to their menu. Then return the favor by having them stay with you later. All it would cost is gas. You have tons of friends here!

I soooo think we need a HCW retreat. A meet up in Vegas or a cruise or something!!

I fly free..from my Southwest Airlines card.

You might look into getting a credit card that pays you rewards for hotels, cruises, etc. I have a Royal Caribbean card...took me 5 years to earn 2 free cruises (which I didn't use...I sold them on here, because we only like Vegas lol, but there are cards that do pay you good things). Just charge everything, but pay it off each month. Until you get them built up...maybe look on ebay for people selling free hotel stays they've earned with points??? Or post something in the vacation section here that you're looking for free or discounted rooms..and you'll trade good frees for them...you never know who has something good on here to trade!

The cards won't earn you any freebies immediately but over time they're worth it. Discover is one I like too. They have 5% cashback promotions each quarter, and 1 quarter it's 5% on gas, during that 3 month period I usually earn a $20 giftcard to a restaurant. 3 months is grocery stores :) so that's a good card to earn meals on! If you're not good at paying stuff off every month, this is NOT a good idea, but if you're disciplined you can really make it work for you!
