If you have the time and you do want to check out a ruins, Chitzen Itza is just magnificent. It is long trip from Cancun, but definitely worth it. We were able to climb one of the pyramids (El Castillo) before it was closed to tourists.
Tulum is pretty, but nowhere near as extensive and impressive. There are small ruins you can check out around and about Cancun as well.
Go see one of the Cultural dance shows, they are very interesting and entertaining.

I'd like to make one suggestion, use cash and travelers checks. We used a credit card only at one restaurant, and a major hotel and it was skimmed.

I am sooo happy you decided to hit Xcaret. You will really enjoy it. There is just so much to do.
Does the price you mentioned include the trip there and back from Cancun? If not, there are tour companies that offer "Xcaret Plus" with hotel pick-up for $116. Something to think about.
They are very enviromental minded there at the park and one of their rules is you can't bring in your own sunscreen unless it's the "biodegradable" kind. Just a fyi.
This thread is making me want to go back..lol.
I'd appreciate your prayers during a very hard transition in my life. TYVVM

You can take a boat ride to Isla Mujeres - Island of Women, stunningly beautiful water. The cab drivers are AWFUL drivers. We were scared for our lives, no kidding!

Agreed! It was scary! But at the same time, one of those "things you do in Mexico" LOL

Hmmm... I went to Cancun in my early 20's and can really only remember the excessive drinking and clubbing I did... :) too young to have appreciated the more cultural aspects of Mexico.. maybe next time :)

I agree when you go on spring break it is different. But we are in our 30's so I guess we will be ok. Thanks for the tips!!!
