Need thoughts on Key West Florida/ South Padre Island Texas

I go on vacation February 5th, we are off to celebrate our 30th anniversary........we know we are taking a road trip, just not sure where. Help me decide.
What are your thoughts on Key West Florida and South Padre Island Texas.
It is 1358 miles to Key West, 1250 miles to South Padre Island from where we live.
I really want this to be a Anniversary that we will remember, so give me your thoughts, it is 2 different directions and 2 totally different areas so I am looking for pros and cons. We were in Key West ( 1 day only 5 years ago and loved it ) Husband has been to South Padre Island, but I have never been there.
Thoughts Anyone?

I live in Central Florida and have been to Key West several times and a couple of years ago spent a week at South Padre Island. We stayed in an RV each trip. Off the top of my head, I would say if you love to fish and like commercial kind of activities, then I'd choose Key West. If you love nature and chillin', I'd choose Padre Island. Oh goodness it just dawned on me I bet we spent that week at North Padre Island - it was a national or state park. Camped right on the beach.

Oh well, sorry not too much help after all.

I vote for the Keys : ) ...Just cuz, I've never been to S.Padre so don't listen to me lol

KEY WEST!!!!!!!!!!!
My fiance (boyfriend at the time) and I went there last year for my Birthday and we loved it!!!
We got engaged in Key West (right on the boardwalk) so it will always hold a special place in our hearts!
There's alot of touristy stuff to do there, but the next time my fiance and I have a chance to go, we're going to enjoy it the way the natives do.
There's some type of aquatic nature center on the Naval base and it was a nice experience.
Also, we went to where they have the Sunset Celebration, during the day, and there was a fisherman cleaning his catch. He gave us a huge Mai Mai fillet.
The beach was nice. So clear you can see the bottom. The only thing that I couldn't get used to was the feel of the sand and the fact that there was no waves.
But I give Key West 5 stars!!!
