Default Smoky Mountain Area in October

I know a lot of you have great ideas for our trip. We've rented a cabin in Cosby. We'll be in the area for 5 nights. We're retired and not interested in attending shows or Dollywood. We love the beauty and quiet of the mountains, that's why we're not staying in Gatlinburg. We're not able to hike long distances but short hikes/walks are great. We love the beauty of the mountains. What are the must-do and must-see things in the Gatlinburg - Sevierville - Pigeon Forge areas and in the National Park? We plan to fix breakfast and dinner at the cabin most days, but would welcome suggestions for lunch spots that are good and not expensive. Any money-saving ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Default Re: Smoky Mountain Area in October

We go to the Smokies at least 4 time a year, we leave again Spet 13-20. Cades Cove is a must to go see if you haven't already been their. It's a 11 mile one way scenic drive, it will take several hours to stop and see the old cabins, church's and homesteads. Gatlinburg also has a 5 mile one way scenic drive at light 7 and just follow the signs. Their is so much to see and do in a short time. You can go on line to mypigeonforge.com and sign up for coupons and other thing to arrive in the mail before you leave for your trip.
Fall is such a pretty time to be in the Smokies, so much going on from the craft fairs, hayrides through Gatlinburg to the Haunted ghost walk nighty from the grave yard. Do go to the top of Old Smoky at New Foundgap where the Tn & NC stateline is to see the view, then drive the other 11 miles to Clingmens Dome you will not be disappointed. If their is any thing else I can help you with feel free to pm me.
