Assuming you're staying at the Crowne Plaza in Times Square (I know there's at least one other Crowne Plaza, over near LaGuardia Airport), you'll be right near the half-price TKTS booth, so you could go there to buy tickets. Two links with more info.

TKTS Discount Booths
Times Square Alliance - Times Square: Then and Now - Theatre: Tickets

That's all I really know off the top of my head. It's been a while since I've gone to a Broadway show.

Re tourist-related stuff, if you haven't been to NY before and/or haven't visited the Statue of Liberty yet, you might want to consider visiting there, now that the Crown is finally open again (as of July 4, I think).

Have you or your mom been to NY before? What are your and your mom's interests besides shows? Does she have any mobility issues? If you let me know, I'll try to think of other stuff. :-)

If you want an affordable place to eat in Time Square and aren't coming from TX, then Dallas BBQ is really really decently priced for NYC and Time Square... it's right on 42nd Street btw 7 and 8th ave. No discounts, but super affordable for rotisserie chicken etc. But that's probably not why you're coming to NY... so if you're looking for some good places to eat - locations in the ethnic areas are really affordable - Little Italy, K-town, Chinatown, even some Thai places in Hells Kitchen. I just went to one that like a hole in the wall on 49th st btw 9th & 10 ave, closer to 9th that was pretty good food and affordable. Union Square has some decently affordable places - i don't know of any discounts per say, but at least affordable. I haven't been there in awhile.

Places to visit - Empire State Building, Central Park, Ellis Island, the Village, Soho, the MET (love it!), Rockefeller Center & Bryant Park area... can get a great photo w/the Empire State Building the background lol.

Also, look at this site for sight seeing.

You buy a one, two day, etc. pass. Check it out!

New York*Pass*– Easy Sightseeing*New York City*Attractions – NY*City*Pass

Also, FYI I don't think you can get to top (crown) of the Statue of Liberty till the fall. Tickets are selling out fast. Look at the website.

julesjasin, The reason I asked if you or your mother has any mobility issues is, I was thinking, if neither of you has problems with walking a lot, maybe you could do some free or inexpensive walking tours. Manhattan is very walkable. Just google for free walking tours in NYC or New York or Manhattan. Also, for restaurant info, check the reviews and listings on the NY Times, Village Voice, New Yorker, and Time Out websites. Btw, what kind of price, for what kind of room, did you get at The Crowne Plaza? Did you use a discount hotel booking service or did you book directly? What other stuff do you have planned so far for your trip? I like hearing about other people's trips!
