Dh & I are planning a family vacation to DC, Gettysburg, Williamsburg & the vacinity in late summer-early fall. We'd be driving there from Ohio with our then 8 year old son. We love all things historical & our 8 year old loves trains Does anyone have any advice on where to start?
We stayed at the Days Inn a mile outside of Gettysburg. It was 80 a night including breakfast which including waffles. It was the best. They are very friendly and helpful. You can take a van into town or it is even close enough to ride bicycles if you wanted too. There is also a Perkins and a Dairy Queen walking distance.
Should have wrote have been to DC also. One thing I wished I had checked was which side of town our motel was on. Remember that all the Smithsonians are free. There is so much to see. We felt like we were running thru the museums. There is also a new Aviation and Space Building at Dulles airport which is awesome

Hi! I live in Chambersburg about 40 mi. West of Gettysburg on RT.30 You can find hotels here that are nice but affordable and also discount books for attractions in many restaurants here.
Also a bit of history, Chambersburg is the only town north of the Mason Dixon to be burned down during the Civil War. HTHs
