Default Need Information for Houston/Galveston Tx

My husband and I are planning our first vacation.

We planned to visit his brother in Houston TX. We are driving from Southeast Missouri to Houston TX.

This is planned for the first and second week in Sept 09. I know its months away but we have started saving now. 'Cause we are mostly last minute people and dont plan anything meaning if we wanted to do something or go somewhere we just do it, even if i only have 30 mins to wake up and be ready (LoL).

So my question or asking for HELP for you is What is there to do in Houston? How to get discounts for local attractions?

We will be stayin at his brothers house, so we wont need any hotel information.

We will be going to Galveston for the day, I want to see the Beach and Gulf of Mexico.

Thanks in advance.

Tasha

I know that Galveston is in pretty bad shape right now because of Hurricane Ike.
Kemah boardwalk is pretty fun (ride the beast! Its a fast boat)and the Space Center is really fun, especially if you have kids.

Moody Gardens in Galveston was very nice and a neat place to visit. Since the hurricane, you might want to contact the Chamber of Commerce there to see what is in decent shape and is open.
There is the Natural Science Museum in Houston and the Houston Zoo. You can also catch an Astros baseball game, go to the Galleria mall, and the Space Center is neat to see.

Houston also now has The House of Blues so if you don't have kids and like music...
The Strand in Galveston is great for shopping. check out Galveston.com for more to do in Galveston.

I went to school at SEMO and now live in Houston. Its a great place to Visit and live.

Hi ~ You have to visit Kemah Boardwalk ~ not only is it a beautiful boardwalk with live music, face painting, carnival games...it also offers an all day pass to ride many amusement park rides. Check out their website Kemahboardwalk.com ~ Galveston is really coming back along and is a must see. If you spot any wood stilts out in the ocean, you know that it is from a business that was blown completely away by Ike. A fun place to eat is The Spot. It is located on Galveston Seawall. Houston does have a Zoo, but it is a typical zoo and does not feature too much more. It really depends if you are going to be on the South or North Side of Houston as far as what else is fun. We have Schlitterbaun, it is in Galveston and Moody Gardens. To get times/prices and the best information go directly to their websites. If you like TexMex food we have lots of it. Their is also some attractions downtown like the Aquarium, but it is owned by the same people that own Kemah Boardwalk, so I would not suggest going to both. Also, NASA has a hands on type amusement. ~ I have never seen any coupons for Kemah, but look for coupons for Moody Gardens, Schlitterbaun and NASA for sure. If you need any help you can contact me directly and I can send you some. They have them at all local Krogers. I would need to check the dates since you said you are coming in September. Hope this information helps you ~
