Default How long is a good length of time for your vacation?

It is time for my family to plan the summer vacation. Last year we went for a week (Sat to Sat) on a lake. It was really nice but come to day 5 the kids were cranky and I think we could have ended it there. I know the length of time depends on the location you go to but there is always an average of what you think is best. Share with us how long you like to go on vacation wnd why? I still think 7 days, one week is good for me.

I usually take 7-9 day vacations. But then again, I'm single and rarely annoy myself. :)

I'm single too, but I don't vacation alone... which means I get a little cranky and annoyed after a while with little or no "alone time" too! LOL

I think 5 to 7 days is best for me. However, I prefer to come home for the last 1 to 2 days of it, so I can have a little time to recover, relax, and enjoy the time off from work- in peace and quiet! LOL (I think if I was married with kids, I'd want to take that last day or two by arranging for the kids to spend it at a friend's or relative's house, then order take-out and snuggle up-- with a good book or with the hubby, depending on the mood! )

7 days is my max...DH booked a 10 dayer at WDW once..it was too much, but then, 10 days overseas would not be enough, hmm...I'm thinking it depends where you are going.

For me it all depends on the destination. I wouldn't think of going to Hawaii for less than 2 weeks. The time it takes to get there, getting over jet lag and the time it takes to get from one island to another if you plan on seeing more than one. I have had some super shorter vacations as well, 4 days on Cozumel are perfect (and usually the best bargain price from consolidators), l also love my long weekends to get me by between major vacations. I once took a flying (rail) trip through Europe and hit Paris, Interlaken Switzerland, Venice, and Tuscany in 10 days, and it was way too rushed.

I agree with that totally. I would not even book a vacation to somewhere like Hawaii, Greece, or the Carribeans without enough time to saturate myself with everything I could. I might not get back there!

Default Re: How long is a good length of time for your vacation?

There is only my DH and I and we have found that the perfect vacation is 7 days in the Caribbean. We usually go to an All-Inclusive resort and are sick of the rich food and drinks by day 5 or 6 and happy to go home by day 7.

If I was traveling with kids, it would depend. Do you go on one vacation a year, or a lot of mini-vacations? When I was a kid we would go on one big vacation (Hawaii for 5-7 days, or Ireland {to visit with family} for 2 weeks). The rest of the summer would be weekend mini-vacations to the lake for 2 -3 days each. I don't have kids now, so I don't think I'm much help, sorry.
