Default Florida Panhandle-any non-tourist-trap areas?

Anybody know of a place in the panhandle area that is non-touristy(read: cheaper) and accessible to the beach?? (doesn't have to be on the beach, but close...5-10 minutes.

I appreciate any input...it's easier to get this type of info from people who live in the are, or travel there a lot.

There are several places in the panhandle that aren't big tourists traps.. Seagrove, Seaside, Grayton Beach, HEnderson beach, Cape San Blas, Alligator Point,. It's mostly beach homes and condo's in these areas. Destin is not far from the first 4 places that I mentioned if you want all that touristy stuff. I prefer to avoid places like that.

Thanks! Are there many hotels/places to stay in or around those places?

I don't remember seeing any hotels. THere might be some more inland but not directly on the beach.. or even across the street.

Hi! Navarre Beach is considered "Florida's best kept secret." There are plenty of condos to rent right on the beach, very affordable..very non touristy..but if you drive 15 minutes either direction, you hit destin, ft walton or pensacola, which have lots of fun stuff to do...trust me, i live here and LOVE it!!

Thanks ladies! I don't when we might go. We went to Destin a few years ago, before kids. We had a great time. I don't mind if we have to drive 10 or so minutes to get to the beach, if it means we can stay an extra day or two..$$$$!

When we were in Pensacola, we visited the Naval Air Museum or something like that. It was wonderful and we learned alot from the tour which I think was free. My boys all loved it!

We went there too..way before kids. While DH and I were still dating, I went on vacation with his family. We watched the Blue Angels at Pensacola Beach-awesome-and then the next day went to the museum. It was fun.

This is a link to a nice beach house we've rented a few times in Port St Joe, FL

Florida Vacation - Beach House. Uncrowded beach and awesome view if you haven't already found something.
