There are lots and lots and lots of ways, but I think the key is to really find a system that works well for you and makes sense to you. Me personally, because I deal with a lot of multiples of coupons, I keep a file box with hanging folders separated by date for inserts and by type of coupon for other types of coupons. I'm sure others here have other suggestions.

Not super actively trading at the moment, but always interested in MIRs (NBPN in MN), Coke Codes & AMC movie passes! If you insist: my wishlist.

I agree with Sue. I don't consider myself an extreme couponer. At the home here it is just the hubs and me. We don't have a lot of grocery needs. On occasion, if it is an awesome sale or an awesome Q I will do some stockpiling, like every so often, one of the hotsauces, (forget which ones) will put in a free Q in the insert, or Ken's dressings will put in a free Q in the insert, or today, Friskies has $1.00/1 for their cat treats, and my kitties think these treats are Crack..and they are completely addicted.

But I digress...my point is, my Qs for shopping are just in a little coupon holder, my Qs for trading are in a binder, with the baseball holders, etc. I keep way more for trading then I actually use for shopping so it is easier for me to use the binder method to keep track of my haves for trading versus what I am going to be using for shopping.

Great question! I'm dealing with that myself, having just started trading this month. At this point I have a shoe box, but am going to hit up target's dollar section and get some accordian filers I saw last week but didn't think I'd need... ha! That way I'll have the one for coupons I use and another for trading. I plan to organize exactly the same way that I have been for years, just in two now!

I've been using the same system for decades, but others might not like it. I've got a plastic shoebox with a click-tight lid that is the same width and height of small envelopes. I categorize my Qs in envelopes and file them in the order that works best for me.
I can write whatever I want on the envelopes and change titles anytime I want. If I suddenly start getting a large number of Qs for a particular product, I'm able to add a new envelope to keep things organized, then if the coupons taper off, I've always got the option of eliminating it.
I've got envelopes in the front of the box with store names, so I'm able to keep Qs I plan to use at each store together.
When the envelopes get worn out, it costs almost nothing to replace them.
I carry it just like you would a binder, but since the sides are clear, the merchants can see inside and know I'm not using it to shoplift.
