unfortunately, there are people who know that paypal sent as gifts cannot be disputed and this is exactly why they specify that. We've always said, do not send money you're not willing to lose so it is best to pay fees just in case we don't get our end.
I'm not saying the other party you're dealing with planned that BUT we have discussed this in the bad trade forum that there are scammers who go to different boards, establish some FB and then run away with a lot of paypal they collected as "gifts" from unsuspecting members. They know that people they get money from will think more than twice about filing a dispute with paypal if they do not want to go into details of transaction and tell the truth that it was actually a payment

I've read in other boards, they just suck it up and learn from it.
