4th Annual Sharing is Caring Coupon Train
It’s that time again! Time for our fabulous train where we share and care in our online and at home communities. This train changes a little from year to year, so please read through the guidelines before joining, so you are sure that you are able to join in the fun.
This ride will run October 10 – Thanksgiving with mail outs on TUESDAYS starting October 25th. (sign ups will go until Wednesday, October 19th and matchups will be posted before the weekend so you will have time to make your envies)
The way this train works, is that we mail envies just like on any other trains, but we are split up into two teams where we basically try to win by having the most donations given out throughout the train. Donations are things like items given to the salvation army, food drive donations, blood bank donations, donations of time or money, RAOKs to people on HCW – and so much more. There are ways for everyone to participate and no amount of good will is too small. This really isn’t about winning as much as giving to your fellow person and getting into the holiday spirit. We do this every year and have been amazed at the amount of donations of all kinds that have been given by our generous members. The winning team will receive an envie from a member of the other team at the end of the train.
This year, the teams will be split in half, Team Kristy and Team Melli – you will make your donations and post to the thread, as well as to PM your team leader (to be sure we don’t miss anything) to have your points logged. It is very important that you do this, as the thread for this train gets very long, very fast, and it would be VERY easy to miss something. We will give periodic updates of the points that each team has earned, and cheering and friendly competition is encouraged.
You will be mailing to one person each week - this person will change from week to week. If your team is not the winning team, you will also be responsible for one additional envie to be mailed to an assigned memeber of the winning team. So, be prepared to send 5-6 envies over the course of the train.
Here are ideas of some things that would be considered a donation and the point values for each –
Items to the salvation army (clothes, books, etc) 1 point per item
Food given to the food bank – 1 point per item
HBA items given to charity – 1 point per item
Money given to charity – 1 point per item. 100 point cap for that per team member --- note: we have added any money dontated to the HHH for holiday helping hands as eligable for points - you may get points for auctions or direct donations, this is a way that you would be able to donate in a way that would help members of our coupon community directly. Whole frozen turkey given for a turkey drive closer to Thanksgiving – 10 points
Time given for community service (including serving Thanksgiving dinner at a soup kitchen) – 10 points per hour donated.
Baked goods or a dinner given to a neighbor (they don’t have to be in need, this would be one of those “just for smiles” donations) – 10 points
RAOK envie sent to any member of HCW (include instructions for them to PM your team leader upon receipt as part of the train please so we can verify your points) 10 points per envie. – Note on this, the RAOK envies need to be wishlist based, so that the members that you are gifting are getting coupons that they really may be able to use, so please start out with a wishlist envie and fill it out with potluck after that.
HBA gift basket given to a community member in need (at home or HCW, either way will count as a charitable act) 25 points
Hand crafted useful item given to a community member in need (again at home community or HCW community, either would count) think things like crocheted scarves, sewn blankets or other household items that would be of use. “In need” can mean many things including but not limited to, in need of help getting through the holidays or in need of a little smile – so be creative with your giving. – 25 points
Donation to a blood bank – 25 points.
Whole thanksgiving dinner given to a food bank or even a neighbor in need near Thanksgiving time – this would consist of something like a turkey or ham, along with enough sides to feed a 4-6 person family. Suggestions would be maybe a couple cans each of a couple of vegetables like green beans and corn, a box of stuffing or two, fresh or dehydrated potatoes (depending on what your food bank accepts) a couple of jars or cans or packets of gravy, and whatever else you could think of that would make it a meal. So, to earn your points, we will say that a “thanksgiving dinner” donation will consist of the turkey or ham and at least 8 canned/ boxed/ pouched items on the side. These would all be delivered at one time. – 25 points
For donations like salvation army items, individual food or HBA items given to a food bank, you do not have to log each and every individual item donated, we just need a count from you. You are more than welcome of course to post to the thread what exactly you gave, as an inspiration to others. Again, it’s not required. As for the Turkey dinner that is worth 25 points, we will want to know what qty and side items you donated.
To Qualify for this ride:
You must be a member of the trading group with an itrader rating of 5 or higher with no negatives.
Doing the donation part of this train is required if you sign up to ride.
You must be able to be part of the ride for the entire train. If you are going on vacation or anything, please sign up with us next year.
You must be willing to send out quality envies.
You must agree that at the end of the train you will send out up to a RAOK envie to whoever the winners of the contest are.
THE TRAIN PORTION OF THIS RIDE:
We have as many seats available as we need so that everyone who is interested in riding can climb aboard. Sign ups will be from today until October 19th. We will send out one mailing list with everyone’s info on it, and the riding order will be posted as soon as possible.
You must post when you receive and again when you mail out.
Any rider who repeatedly stalls the train will be removed so that the ride is fun for the other riders.
ENVIE GUIDELINES:
Each envie will have no fewer than 25 coupons or items in it. (items = BTFE, stickers, actuals, stamps etc)
Coupons will expire no sooner than 2 weeks after the mail date
Riders should use the person’s wish list as a starting point when filling the envie and then try and choose coupons and items to fill the rest of the envie that you think would compliment the person’s wishes. Thoughtful envies are good envies and what goes around comes around!
Please write your user name and the train name and envie somewhere on the envie
Sending more than 25 coupons and items is fine, please check your postage
If your envie is not received within 2 weeks of when you mailed, you will be asked to mail again.
No baby, pet, meds, cosmetics or otherwise oddball products on this train unless it is specifically on your match up’s list.
Up to two duplicates of non wish list coupons per envie – for EXACT matches (item and value would both need to match to be an exact match) multiples are encouraged.
You are also encouraged to communicate with your buddy to see what other things you might have that they would need.

Post to the thread to hold your seat. In your post, so that we know that you have read the entire thread, please include a word – any word at all that reminds you of Thanksgiving, or giving to someone else. Let’s see how many original words we can come up with. Feel free to share why you chose your word if you wish.
PM me right away with your mailing info and wish list link if it is not in your siggy. We will not be going and looking for them as this train is time consuming the way it is
