RAOK ROAK: need ideas for protein based drinkable meals

I am having gastric bypass surgery on the 14th and am looking for protein rich drinks (other than just a protein shake) that I can have for the first couple of weeks after the clear liquid diet. I have a priority envie that will get mailed as soon as I am home and able to check here.

Other than protein shakes that are sold in stores, I couldn't really find anything other than recipes for drinks that seem like they're shakes. I'm including a recipe.

    2 c. milk
    1 banana
    1 tbsp. black strap molasses
1 tbsp. protein powder (vanilla flavored)
    1 tbsp. nutritional yeast
Combine all ingredients in a blender until thoroughly mixed. Drink half and save half in refrigerator for later.

Sorry I couldn't find anything better.

Special K makes K20 Protein Water Mix. Each serving has 5 grams of protein. You just mix it in water. There's Strawberry Kiwi, Pink Lemonade, and Iced Tea.

I could not handle the whey protein after my surgery, my tummy wouldn't keep it down. However, dh used to take a pack of carnation sugar free instant breakfast in the chocolate, mix it whey protein, milk and I think some ice and thats what he would have. 6 years later he still likes it sometimes!

Also a little tip, you may become lactose intolerant after your surgery. We switched to silk milk, then to almond milk. Silk makes a wonderful chocolate!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Not sure there's too many protein drink meals that aren't actual drinks. I've heard that Lindora has protein meals which I believe includes puddings and drinks. I hear the items are difficult to fully blend though so tastes iffy depending on how well you get it mixed. The puddings you could maybe mix with coffee instead of milk/cream and then add spices like cinnamon or nutmeg as desired for a tasty coffee drink.

If you do want to go with a protein drink though, Walmart has cheap protein drinks, EAS Advantedge, and they are decent. Great to mix with coffee, especially the vanilla (use instead of milk/cream).

Sorry I couldn't offer more/better suggestions. Good luck though and recover quickly!

CONGRATS! I had WLS 3 years ago and would do it every year if I had to! Here are a couple of ideas! I use them ALL the time!

    1st) (26 g protein)

    Protein coffee (or chai tea)

make up your coffee (or tea) like normal.
take a scoop of protein powder (I use chocolate in my coffee, makes like a coffee flavored hot chocolate; or vanilla in the chai tea, sometimes adding a tad of sf flavored syrup) and put in your cup, add enough cold (has to be cold) water to make a slurry (liquified protein powder, thick)

Then add in your hot coffee or tea. Stir well. I use the Walmart Body Fortress protein powders, the only ones that I really like and they have 26 g protein per scoop!

    2nd idea: (abt 40 g protein)

1 ct of chobani (or other high protein greek yogurt, but this is my fav), blueberry (or other flavor) chobani has 14 -15 g protein per container
1/2-1 c. frozen matching (similar to the yogurt flavor) fruit
    1 scoop vanilla protein powder
small dab of milk IF needed

Put in blender or magic bullet and mix, the frozen fruit makes it thick and slush type and rich so it feels like you are eating something you shouldn't :)

Hope this helps. I also found that adding my vanilla or unflavored protein powder to tomato soup helped too! Just be sure to make it a slurry form and THEN add the hot liquid to it. I make tomato soup with milk, so the vanilla protein powder worked wonderfully and you couldn't taste it at all!

for the pudding, try mixing a scoop or two of vanilla protein powder into the milk then mixing regular sugar free pudding into it, loved it, no change in the flavor and fairly cheap.

Egg custard is also an easy to go down, soft food that you can probably do, just a simple custard recipe on the net is what I used.

Glad everything went well for you and you are home! Thanks for the drawing and win!
