Where were you when you heard? RAOK ends 9/12 ~ tndee is the winner

Where were you when you heard about the planes hitting the World Trade Towers? I was at work, had just dropped my son off at the sitters and I just couldnt believe what I was hearing or seeing.

This RAOK will close out on Monday 9/12 in the AM.

I was laid off from work at the time. I was working on my computer and had the TV on thinking I was watching a movie as I would just glance over periodically. Went into my LR to work on something and turned on the TV and that is when I realized it wasn't a movie, it was real. Totally glued to the TV the remainder of the day.

I still have a hard time watching anything about it, so upsetting.

Well, I'm only 21 so I was in school when it happened. Even being so young at the time, I can remember it like it happened yesterday. My dad had retired the year before from the army and we were living at my great grandma's waiting for them to finish building our basement so we could get our house. I remember coming home from school watching the news with my mom, dad and great-grandma just starring at the tv in shock. So many innocent lives lost that day, it's so heartbreaking.

My brother and his family were in the process of having a house built near me, they would be moving from Massachusetts. I had purchased the ceiling fans they wanted in a few rooms and needed to deliver them to the site for the subcontractors to install that morning.

While I'm standing in their future living room, talking to the contractor, one of the workers had a radio on - they interrupted the music and made the following announcement " It appears a small plane has hit the Tower One of the Twin Towers in NYC. We'll be back with more as soon as we're updated." I turned to the contractor and said, "Did you hear that?" and he admitted he had and we both shook our heads like WTH?

I was home 5 minutes later and turned on the TV and of course by then, video was streaming and I must have stood there with my hand on my mouth for 30 minutes, tears streaming down my face watching the utter destruction and loss of life, people running. I watched it all day long and it just kept getting worse, flights hijacked everywhere. For my generation, it was our day of infamy.

I was a school bus driver at the time and I will never forget how solemn my high school students were, asking so many questions as we made our way home that day. They could not fathom what was happening, nor could I.

Very rough day and one burned in my memory forever.

I was in class and anything that was going on stopped. Everyone gathered around all available televisions and watched the news. It really did bring the country to a halt.

I was at work and we were scheduled to have visitors in that day to whom we would supply lunch. We were trying to prepare for the meeting and somebody heard news about a plane hitting a building in NYC. Some of us immediately ran to the conference room where they had hooked up a TV so we could get the news. We were all just dumbfounded as we watched our security of being safe here in America just crumble before our very eyes. Finally, somebody said, "Let's pray" and we did that. All day the internet was jammed with people trying to find out something. It was just a very bleak, hopeless feeling day. Of course, it is also my Dad's birthday. We had plans for dinner at their house that night. It sure made that birthday a thankful event. Mom said she just wanted to gather all her family in under her wing and try to keep us safe.

We will ALWAYS remember!

I was in bed asleep. My mom woke me up and told me. Took me several minutes to realize it wasn't just a dream.

I was on my way to work. Didn't have a radio in my car and had stopped at a store and overheard some people talking. I kept thinking 'what on earth are they talking about?' Went to get gas and my guys there were talking about it. When I asked them and they filled me on, I couldn't believe it. Driving to work, I could see the Twin Towers since it was such a gorgeous day out. By the time I got to work, everyone was around the tv and the first tower had fallen. Living as close as I do to the City, helicopters started buzzing everywhere as they were leaving the hospitals as fast as they could to get there and do something to help. To this day, I can not and will not watch any of the coverage from the horrific day.

I was 8 months pregnant with my first child. We were still in bed that morning when i got a call from my mom. We turned on the tv and wondered if we were still asleep and it was all a nightmare. I was so scared of what the future would be like for my daughter.

I was working at a preschool at the time, and was walking past the office when someone called and told us. I just happened to be the one that answered the phone-I couldn't comprehend what was being said and they had to repeat it.
