Hi all! I will spare you all the gory details and get right to the point! A skunk sprayed our pouch, the back door was open, dh went to check on the dogs, and the "stink" wafted in from the back door!! My whole first floor, and most of the second floor stinks!

I have NO money right now for professional help! It has gotten better as the days have gone by (it happened 8/31) but we just can't get the smell out of the house! I have tried: (to the tune of the back to school commercials for target)
Baking soda
Vacuuming
more baking soda
white vineger
Fabreze extra strength deoderizer
washing all the soft surfaces I can
More vinegar
washed the dogs
washed the dh
washed me
(poured perioxide/ baking soda/ mouth wash down the drain in the shower cause every time it gets wet, IT STINKS)

So anywho... does anyone have any other suggestions for me??? At this point, I'd even take a little pity! Everyone who posts between now and 6pm est on Monday 9/5 will have a chance to get RAOK. I will give a number range to dh and let him pick! (He will not know who left message for what!)

(((hugs))) That sounds awful. You already tried the things I would have tried. There is a spray out for removing odors...not sure of the name, but there is a coupon out for it right now. Sorry, I have no idea if it would really help. But, I think I'd be willing to try just about anything if I were you.

put plates and bowls of ground coffee all over the house

Immediately put white vinegar into a spray bottle and walk and pump all through the house with it.

use cloves and cinnamon simmered in a pot on the stove

Use the vinegar where the spray happen it will break down the skunk oils.

I've heard this can work. It may or may not need to be done more than once depending on how bad it is. Usually it's just once but it sounds like it's serious. Hope this helps.

Pour one to two tsp. of dish detergent and one-quarter cup of baking soda into a quart of three-percent hydrogen peroxide. Prepare this mixture immediately before use and do not seal the container, because the container can burst from the chemical reaction.

Wash skunked pets and people with the peroxide solution and allow it to set for five minutes before rinsing.

Wipe skunk-scented clothes and fabrics with the peroxide solution before washing them with your regular laundry detergent, but test them for colorfastness beforehand. Use borax, vinegar, ammonia or bleach in the wash cycle with your detergent if the peroxide bleaches your fabrics, but only use one---do not mix them together.

Use the peroxide solution or a 10-percent bleach solution on outdoor areas that have been sprayed by a skunk. Scrub the area and rinse it thoroughly---multiple times, if needed---to stop the odor from wafting into your home.

Place shoes and unwashable objects out in the sun for a few days to air out, and wash indoor walls and windows with equal parts water and white distilled vinegar. The vinegar scent will dissipate as it dries but will also neutralize skunk odors.

Replace the filters in your furnace and air conditioner if the scent lingers throughout your home, and open windows when possible to allow cross ventilation.

Contact your veterinarian or animal control services for product recommendations if the scent persists.

I also heard when washing clothes to put a can of soda in the wash.

That's awful. I had one get underneath the house one time-yucko. It took forever to get that smell out of the living room. Good luck!

I love Scentsy though I am not sure on Skunk smells.
It sounds awful. Sorry that you are going through this.
