How do you win, you ask?? Very simple. Just tell me your favorite memory of someone you have lost. Sad, right? No. I'm thinking of my Gramps a lot and thinking of the things I did w/ him always brings a smile to my face.

Ok. I'll start. I remember sitting on his lap in their sun room while he smoked a cigar and read the paper, beer in his stein on the floor and reading headlines out to me.

I remember my dad pouring sweet tea for me from the refrigerator in this tiny glass... Wasn't much bigger than a shot glass... And him telling me how much he loved me and would "pour tea for me 'til he couldn't pour any more". I might have been 5...

He had a stroke on 12/31/1990 (I was five, sitting on my mom's lap showing her that I could read), and then passed on 11/26/1992 (Thanksgiving day that year).

I remember when my little sister was about to be born, my now deceased grandmother came to stay at our house while my mother was in the hospital and for a little while after. I really enjoyed the time we got to spend together while she was here.

Mine is definitely my Grandparents also on my dads side. My grandmother passed in 98 & my grandpa in 03. Holidays of course are the most vivid. But there are 2 other memories that are random & vivid. When I was younger a chemical plant exploded near our house & we had to evacuate & stay with them. In the morning when we woke up, all I could smell was fresh coffee cake my grandma made. I also remember their 50th anniversary party like it was yesterday (even though I was only 7 or 8). Now I look back at the & think wow 50 yrs Thats more than some get in a lifetime. My parents are divorced & I am now engaged. I look at my grandparents & pray for a long loved filled marriage like they had. You could tell they loved each other just by the way they looked at each other even in last days. Thats the kind of relationship I want.

There is seriously something to be said about the time we spend w/ our Grandparents. They leave a deep mark on us for our entire lives!

I have a tattoo for my Grandfather b/c he was such a huge influence in my life. Something that could never be replaced or even put truly into words.
