I knew mine was growing up when my then five year old wouldn't let me get her cereal one morning saying she could do it herself because she's a big girl. She then did it all by herself with no mess at all.

awww, I don't blame you though for being happy :)
My oldest son is 4 now and tomorrow is his first day of pre-school. What makes me realize how big he's getting, is that for the last week he can't stop telling people,"My mommy's gona take me to school and then she's goin back home. I'm stayin...at MY school." lol so cute, but he makes me wanna cry when he sounds so happy to be without me all day! lol

I have moments all the time, but lately my little man (almost 3) helped himself to a plastic cup and found a can of lemonade at a picnic. He got them both and brought them up to where I was sitting to have me open them and pour him a drink.
Thank you for your patience, readjusting to life outside the books. Finally Graduated February 2012

I totally understand!! I only have one at home now (my 15 year old stepdaughter). But I've had my grandkids here for 2 days every week this summer. I want my house back too!!!
My son is 32 now. On his 8th birthday, he ran down the stairs as soon as he woke up. He looked at me and said..."I'm halfway to driving!!"
I knew my kids were growing up when they stopped giving me kisses at night and now opt for a quick "Night" before heading to bed!![]()
My son is also heading back to college after living with me all summer.
The fact that he likes living in the dorm and comes home a lot less even though hes only ten minutes away shows me he is very independent and can do things for himself
All three of my children are incredibly independent. (6, 4, and 8 months)
Sorry this came out so long.
Our oldest does everything and asks to learn new skills. He can do the laundry (wash & dry), wash dishes or load the dishwasher, sweep, mop, vacuum, even loves to wash the windows. -- of course, when asked to take care of HIS things, there's a bit of a fuss.
Our middle is also insisting on being a 'big kid' and will also do the laundry, feed the animals, wipe down surfaces, clean toys, collect things and put them away. She's always eager to help, and the moment she sees me cleaning she jumps up to pitch in!
Our youngest amazes me more so. He learned to crawl, stand, and cruise with absolutely no help from us. He gets frustrated if we attempt to help him with anything, even if it's simply figuring out what a toy can do. Every time he figures something out, he does it over and over again with the biggest smile on his face -- showing off. I'm so proud, but at the same time, so sad that my littlest baby is growing up so fast!
