I love giving out nerds but I read a magazine article that said to give out other things such as stickers and pencils to help kids fight cavities so that also seems like a good idea.

Hmmmm...I live in the boonies. Anyone that would be brave enough to try and trick-or-treat in my area and make it through the dogs and shotguns would probably get to peruse my stockpile shed for any goodies they can find in there!! LOL
