    Default ISO 4/5th Grade Curriculum

My daughter is really having a tough time in school. I would like to have plenty of materials on hand over this summer to help get caught up or ahead. Kind of homeschooling for the summer months. Any suggestions on what to buy or where to look online would be very helpful.

    Thanks in advance!

You should probably contact your child's teacher. They should be able to give you ideas of what she needs the most help with, and what is expected for the next year-- according to the curriculum and requirements for YOUR school system and state. There may be summer reading lists already.

What I do is go to Target, Walmart, even the book store and get those workbooks. I get the grade that DS is going to go into. Lots of good stuff!

As a former homeschooler who is knowledgeable about selecting age and grade appropriate curriculum, I agree with Mrs. P's suggestion if you feel like your child is a bit behind or struggled this year. The curriculum we used at home may have been on or above grade level, but it is different than what they use at school. There may be little overlap in the curriculum and all the work done at home may not benefit next year. There may also be on-line resources to use through the school/state/curriculum website.

Now, we are doing our own units on the Constitution, Spanish and Health over the summer, but we have ordered the same math and (will order) language arts materials recommended by the school. Even as homeschoolers we did not change core materials from year to year as that may have been confusing, especially for a student who is needing extra reinforcement or is a bit behind.

Stacy, the books you are using are probably fine, especially if your child is doing well already...you just don't want them getting rusty over the summer. If you want them to get a jump start on next year, get the books he will be using next year in school.

May I ask what state you live in? Your state's curriculum might be on line.

He is doing fine. I make him work in the books over the holidays and time off of school. He will be in the 4th grade next year, but we already have the 4th grade book and are working out of that one too.
