Black Friday is coming a day early for Toys R Us this year, the toy seller said Thursday.
It's another signal that this year is shaping up to be a very aggressive holiday selling season. Toys R Us' announcement comes on the same day that Wal-Mart announced free online shipping on holiday deals.
Toys R Us stores will open at 10:00 p.m. nationwide on Thanksgiving Day. Recently stores have been opening their doors earlier, even on the Thanksgiving Day holiday. This is the earliest that Toys R Us has ever kicked off its Black Friday "doorbuster" deals.
"This opportunity is designed to accommodate the early shoppers and help alleviate crowds that build from that point forward," said Toys R Us spokeswoman Kathleen Waugh.
Doorbuster discounts are the deepest and most-coveted deals. Shoppers often wait on line for hours -- sometimes overnight -- for stores to open their doors on the day after Thanksgiving.
The deals are typically huge and also in limited supply.
According to Toys R Us' Black Friday circular, the retailer will offer 150 doorbuster deals from 10:00 p.m. Thanksgiving Day to 1:00 p.m. on Black Friday.
The discounts range from 75% to 50% off on dolls, electronic toys and remote-control toys.
Among the deals: LeapFrog My First Computer at 50% off for $19.99; Vtech Learning laptop at 50% off for $14.99; 505 off on Toy Story 3 figures, including the talking 14-inch U-Command Buzz Lightyear figure for $39.99; 50% off Zhu Zhu Pet hamsters starter sets; 50% off Liv Fashion dolls; 50% off on Barbie Fashion Fairytale toy set for $18.49.
Other featured electronic deals include getting a $50 gift card with the purchase of an 8GB for $229.99 or a 32 GB Apple iPod touch for $299.99 and an Android 2.1 tablet for $139.99.
