It's probably because they hit total before they scanned the coupon. Happened to me and they voided it out and started again
Okay, I went to TRU to use my $10gc wyb $75 q yesterday. I had 75.16 before tax and the cashier couldn't figure out why my coupon wouldn't go through. The manager said it was because I had a card for a subscrition to XBox live for 39.99. This is a software item that you load onto your XBox system. He said it was hardware(?????) and the coupon excludes hardware. And he proceeded to tell me that people that know anything about video gaming know this. I thought this was really ODD!!! It is made by Microsoft. A SOFTWARE COMPANY!
Anyway, I left after redoing everything I had planned and called XBox. They thought I was really a little off when I asked them if it was hardware or software. "Uh, lady, it's a software." Well I know that, but apparently the rocket scientists at TRU don't
. I called Gamestop, EB Games and.....Microsoft! Okay people it is software!!!! Confirmed by all of the above. Should I call Customer service and inform them that these cards are a loadable SOFTWARE?

Well, call CS, I do not think the managers program the registers, therefore it is not probably their fault but they at least should have called corporate themselves to get it solved.
I had a problem too and the coupon I had stated software was also excluded.
you should call. i don't blame you for being upset.
I had two coupons. One was white, not red like the others, and it was a $10gc/$75. Can't remember exactly which TRU book I got it off of, but the manager and I both read it and it only excluded the "video game hardware", nothing about software whatsoever and it was $10gc/$75. The other one(red) excluded "video games, video game hardware". The first one should have worked fine. Anyway... called CS and they did agree that it was software and should have worked with the q I had. BUT... They probably will not be able to go up far enough in the chain of command to get the item changed from hardware to software in their system. Everyone seems to agree, except the rocket scientist manager in the game department, but nobody wants to change it. Gee, might have to honor it on some of the coupons if they do!!!!
Wouldn't want that would we?
Best part is. They are mailing me a gc.
The XBOX Live card is considered a gift card. It would be just like buying a pre-paid phone card at Walgreens. That is why it didn't work. The manager was in the right, but gave the wrong reason.
You'd be hard pressed to find any store that will accept a coupon on the XBOX Live cards, unless they release a coupon specifically on those items.
Sorry the store didn't know what was going on, but you shouldn't be surprised at any big-box store when the management doesn't know what's going on. Those stores are huge, and it's impossible for any employee to know everything.
