Is this a myth? Free 1st birthday cake at Tops?

I have a small one that is going to be ONE (yeah!) in a few weeks. Someone said that they have free birthday cakes for first birthday? Can anyone verify if this is true (before I go making a big dork of myself by asking a Tops baker for a free cake)...lol

It's true! You have to take the birth certi to the customer service desk and they give you a coupon for a FREE small cake. It is a good size to let the little one get into and make a mess. I did this in 2007 and it worked then. just call the Tops you are goingto go to and double check.

The free cakes at grocery stores are usually the tiny 6" size. Don't think that it's going to serve everyone at the birthday party!

I've done this for both of mine. It is not big enough for a party, but it was big enough for two adults and two children I think with leftovers. I remember being surprised that it was bigger than I thought it would be. I did it last about 1 1/2 yrs ago, and brought in the birth certificate. I think I ordered it first on the phone - you could pick colors, flavors etc and have it personalized all included.

Thanks all!! I will pursue the small free birthday cake and give you a report back in a few weeks. We have a LOT of company that week, and I am getting a separate cake for the party, but this will be nice for the actual day.

Walmart will give you a tiny cake when you purchase a cake for the first birthday. My niece's was in the shape of a dog (lots of whipped creme topping). It was very cute to see the baby go at it.

Yeah tops and a few others will provide a free "smash cake" for your little ones birthday. Some want proof others don't.
