Re: Tops coupon policy (doubles and internet coupons) Is there a SPECIFIC written coupon policy for TOPS?
I've done a search and havent been able to find anything aside from the double/ internet coupon policy listed on the official TOPS site.
There seems to be a host of different interpretations of coupon policies. For example, the most recent issue in our local TOPS was an in-ad coupon that offered 100 gas points for a $30 purchase. When I went through the register, I had purchased over $40 worth of merchandise, but my bill only came to $28. The cashier read the coupon to me and it said "$30 after discounts"...the contention was whether a coupon was a discount. According to Websters, a discount is a reduction made from the regular price. The store is NOT taking a loss for a coupon, so it is NOT a discount. A discount is a markdown on a day old loaf of bread, or the bonus card savings. Coupons are reimbursed from the manufacturers so they can in no way be considered a "discount". The issue was resolved at customer service and they gave me my 100 gas points, but I just think that if there was a clear policy in place it would cause much less hard feelings and contentions. Conflicts like this cause a lot of bad PR for the store. |
