Default Baking time help for 2 things in oven

My potatoes (in casserole dish) call for 40 minutes at 350 degrees and my cubed steak recipe (also in casserole dish) calls for 375 degrees for 45 minutes.

Can I cook them both together at 375? If so, how long will it take?

    Thanks for any help!

I'm going to suggest it is doable since the degree difference is small. I might cook the potatoes for some amount less, like 30 minutes total. Do keep an eye on them in case they are overbrowning or drying.

Hey anaj! I run into problems like this all the time! tell ya what, you could go a couple of different ways with this one. I think that the dishes will come out fine @ 375 for 40 minutes, you will just want to check those taters so that your sauce doesn't burn, and the cubed steak will be fine with 5 minutes less of cooking - or you can always start it 5minutes before you put the potatoes in, that works too.

Another idea is to go ahead and do it at 350 instead if you want to be totally sure that the potatoes don't burn, I think the cubed steak will be just fine, I've cooked it at 350 for 45 minutes before and it was just as good as if I had left it in for an hour.

Hope one of those suggestions work for you!

I cook at a SEnior Center for approx 80 people every day. I have found that recipes are just suggestions. As long as you stay pretty close to what they tell you and keep an eye on what you are cooking ,it will be fine. I cook items together all the time, no matter what temp it suggests. I just keep an eye on it and pull items out as soon as 1 is finished then leave the other to finish. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for everyone's help. So, the general consensus is start them both at 350 or 375 and they will be done in 45 min or less (watch potatoes)? For some reason I thought if you had more than one thing in there, you had to allow more cooking time? Not sure where I got that idea?

that can be true sometimes when the oven is really loaded - I haven't had too much of a problem with only two items though. Best of luck, hope it comes out great!
