It seems like forever since I've visited this site. I stocked up heavily last January. I need to restock a bit; I am way out of the loop not only with deals but coupon policies. I am sure the TLC extreme couponing show has altered the landscape. What has changed with the larger retailers and drug stores? Anyone know where I can view episodes from the aforementioned show? I'm not sure why I want to watch.
This has been quite the year. I've traveled over 8,000 miles to Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Denmark. I'm now conversationally bilingual and continue to work hard towards fluency. I am enjoying $.87 per tutoring hour cost.
I've gone through a powerful and very personal transformation as a result of my trips this year. To those whom I was less than cordial in the past, I offer a sincere apology.
I've seen peaceful, successful ways to live without fear of losing health and dental care, great work and personal life balance and a very relaxed way of living. I'm starting to understand a greater picture of the world and where I feel most at peace.
I am more aware of the mounting debts in America and the Euro currency countries. I am concerned the debt ceiling will eventually collapse because it is near impossible to maintain trillions of dollars of debt.
I will never go back to the way I used to coupon or stockpile. I was reminded why it is important last month. I had to paid 50 Swedish Kronor or $8.65 for a 500 ml bottle of mouthwash.

I used to go every Sunday to Rite Aid. I would tear through the recycle bin in the back of the building. I would coupon everything and deal hunt almost daily. I've realized that while there is value in deal hunting and coupon usage, I do not like the person I was. I was petty in arguing over deals, had to get up at ungodly times to make sure I could secure a deal and the nightmare of coupon redemption locally.
Local stores have changed their coupon acceptance policy in response to the TLC show. I only shop clearance or with a few coupons when I go to these stores. I would rather pay full price then stand at a register for twenty five minutes while the store decides if they will accept the coupons--which happened to me a few times. I can not use coupons at the Uscans anymore at these stores either. The companies reprogrammed the Uscan software.
Last December, I picked up a good amount of Up and Up Christmas hand soap and mouth wash for $.37/each without coupon. I did not have to rise at 8 am either. I am conscious of saving in all aspects of my life, not just the grocery or pharmacy. It was so cool to go into Apoteket in Sweden, see three aisles and two or three choices of the same items. I never realized how many choices or how overkill the marketing is in the states.
Yes, I agree about the VAT tax but everyone has health care and a pension at retirement.
Now, we see limits on coupons for 2 per shopping trip, 4 per shopping trip, etc. My store allows doubling up to 5 per. Now, we are going to have to make more trips to the store, more time, more gas, etc. I have only watched less than 5 minutes of Extreme Couponing, but, I am turned off. Why ruin it for everyone for a few minutes of glory? Of course, I brag to my family of my great runs in the grocery, but, I don't gloat in it. I'm surprised that the coupon industry hasn't taken a "No deal, No way" attitude.

After the premier telecast of the show, I consoled myself it will be a fad and things will be all right again. Of course, it was wishful thinking and I've learned to accept we've not reached bottom yet before it gets better. But, one thing that keeps me going is the fact I've saved a lot over the past several years.
No regrets, it was fun while it lasted. I'm excited to find for the next adventure; I want to be one of those who can find the opportunity even in a depression.
I haven't had any issues the past couple of months mostly because A) the coupon values are horrid and B) they are out of the nest deals anyhow.
It is kinda a work in progress every week, ya know?
