David Bowie and Bing Crosby Little Drummer Boy
Here are some of mine:
Lyrics
Whoo!
It sure is hot out here
Ya know?
I don't mind though
Just glad to be free
Know what I'm saying, uh!
Take the shackles off my feet so I can dance
I just wanna praise you
(What'cha wanna do?)
I just wanna praise you
(Yeah, yeah)
You broke the chains now I can lift my hands
(Uh feel me?)
And I'm gonna praise you
(What'cha gonna do?)
I'm gonna praise you
In the corners of mind
I just can't seem to find a reason to believe
That I can break free
Cause you see I have been down for so long
Feel like all hope is gone
But as I lift my hands, I understand
That I should praise you through my circumstance
Take the shackles off my feet so I can dance ( so I can dance )
I just wanna praise you ( I just wanna praise you )
I just wanna praise you ( I just wanna praise you )
You broke the chains now I can lift my hands ( I can lit my hands )
And I'm gonna praise you
I'm gonna praise you
Everything that could go wrong
All went wrong at one time
So much pressure fell on me
I thought I was gonna lose my mind
But I know you wanna see
If I will hold on through these trials
But I need you to lift this load
Cause I can't take it no more
Take the shackles off my feet so I can dance ( so I can dance )
I just wanna praise you ( I just wanna praise you )
I just wanna praise you ( Yeah Yeah )
You broke the chains now I can lift my hands ( Ohhhh yeah )
And I'm gonna praise you ( I'm gonna, I'm gonna )
I'm gonna praise you
Been through the fire and the rain
Bound in every kind of way
But God has broken every chain
So let me go right now
[repeat x3]
Take the shackles ( Yeah ) off my feet so I can dance ( 1st repeat so I can dance ya'll )
I just wanna praise you ( 2nd repeat cause I just wanna, cause I just wanna )
I just wanna praise you ( I wanna praise ya ) ( 3rd repeat I just wanna praise ya! Yes I'm free tonight, yes I'm free yeah )
You broke the chains now I can lift my hands ( I can lift my hands )
And I'm gonna praise you ( Praise God, Praise God, Praise God )
I'm gonna praise you
Take them off Take them off
What' cha gonna do, huh yeah
You broke the chains now I can lift my hands
And I'm gonna praise you
I'm gonna praise you

[Kirk talking]: For those of you that think gospel music has gone too far.
You think we got too radical with our message.
Well I got news for you , you ain't heard nothin yet,

Start of Song
Lately I've been going through some things that really got me down.
I need someone somebody to help me come and turn my life around. ( Ah I feel like having some church up in here )
I can't explain it, I can't obtain it Jesus your love is so, it's so amazing.
It gets me high up to the sky, and when I think about your goodness it makes me wanna stomp. ( Ha Ha Ha You can't take my joy devil )
Makes me clap my hands.
Makes me wanna dance and stomp.( Ah you better put them hands together & have a Holy Ghost party with me )
My brother can't you see I got the victory. STOMP!!! ( No weapon formed against me shall prosper, I'm more than a conquerer, can I get a witness up in here )
Lately I've been going through some things that really got me down. ( put your hands together, put your hands together )
I need someone somebody to help me come and turn my life around. ( Ah Halleujah, come on & sing with me )
I can't explain it, I can't obtain it Jesus your love is so, it's so amazing.
It gets me high up to the sky, and when I think about your goodness it makes me wanna stomp.

I used to listen to Carmen, but always loved the old fashioned music like I'll Fly Away & Are you Washed in the Blood of the Lamb. While I can't hear music well enough to decipher it now, God has given me one song that's very dear to me. I heard it in church for the first time & while I didn't quite get every tone, I was able to understand every word, which is not normal with my type of hearing loss. In fact, my current siggy was inspired by it.![]()
Above All
Above all powers, above all kings
Above all nature and all created things
Above all wisdom and all the ways of man
You were here before the world began
Above all kingdoms, above all thrones
Above all wonders the world has ever known
Above all wealth and treasures of the earth
There's no way to measure what you're worth
Crucified
Laid behind a stone
You lived to die
Rejected and alone
Like a rose
Trampled on the ground
You took the fall
And thought of me
Above all

Well, since all i listen to is christian music, I have to say pretty much all of it. lol But I know that doens't answer the question!
I love
Amazing Grace; My Chains are Gone by Chris Tomlin
The Power of the Cross by Kristyn Getty
Blessings by Laura Story (the words to this song r the best!!)
Glorious Day by Casting Crowns
You are More by Tenth Ave North
This is the Stuff by Francesca Battistelli
Lead Me by Sanctus Real
My deliverer by Mandisa
In Your Arms by Meredith Andrews
Bring the Rain by Mercy Me
I listen to KLOVE (a nationwide, contemporary Christian station) exclusively, so I pretty much agree with all of what newatthis wrote! LOL
But to be a little more specific... I love everything I've heard so far from Mandisa ("Only the World" was my go-to song thru a really rough time at work last year!) & Francesca Battistelli (she could have written "Free to be Me" and "This is the Stuff" just for me- LOL!)... JJ Heller has a couple of really good ones I like, too (can't think of the names right now, though).
"Glorious Day" by Casting Crowns is THE best re-write of a traditional hymn, IMHO! I'd never paid much attention to the hymn ("One Day") before this... How cool is it that the original author of the song made each phrase of the chorus match up with one verse of the song?! :D
And a little subgroup of songs that I enjoy-- upbeat, fun songs that are great pick-me-ups that I don't have to really think about what they mean: like both of Francesca Battistelli's songs, along with "Talk About It (Say So)" by Nicole C. Mullen, ""Deep Enough to Dream" by Chris Rice, "Big House" by Audio Adrenaline, and a cute Christmas one called "Toy Packaging" by Sara Groves... and I guess that's where I'd also group the ones I've known for years from attending (and now teaching) Vacation Bible School- like "My God is so Big" and "This Little Light of Mine"... :)

Anyone like the Gaithers?

I love all the ones mentioned so far, especially Shackles and that describes what I am going through right now. It is so hard but God is bigger than any problem. I also like the old Christian band Stryper and Petra, they are great too. I also like Sandi Patti Love in Any Language, it makes me cry every time in a good way.
Please pray for my family.
Please keep Elizabeth in your prayers. She lost her Father on 2/19/2012.

I'm biased. My DH is in a Christian band and writes most of their music either by himself or with one of the other guys. I love his songs. They've been on hiatus, but they'll be starting back up in about a month. You can visit them on Facebook, if you are interested. (Shameless plug for the hubby!) B2Worship
As far as more popular Christian music: I exclusively listen to KLOVE in the car and like most songs on that station.

meggers-- the Gaithers have some wonderful music too! They're my parents' favorite, they love watching the TV specials... Linda Randle's "God On The Mountain" is an awesome song (I've bought the accompaniment CD but haven't sang it anywhere yet)... and the song I've sang at Easter services several different years ("Then Came the Morning") is written by Bill and Gloria Gaither!![]()
