I thought that was a entertaining read...

Repulsion may or may not be the show’s ultimate intent, but it stirs up unsettling and complex thoughts, not only about the sins of gluttony and pride, but also about the production and consumption of cheap, processed food - Yep, yep, and yep!!! Kudos to any people that actually bough veggies/fruit on this show.

When asked about this, a TLC publicist said future episodes might try to leaven the show with charitable impulses. The Texas mother of seven, the publicist noted, recently organized a shipment of care packages to Japan’s earthquake disaster victims. - This is actually a terrible thing to do. You should NEVER send items (physical items) to a location post-disaster. It is counter to every GOOD thing that rescuers/responders/aid workers/ect are trying (very hard) to do. Please, please resit the urge to make yourself feel better by doing this. You are actually causing MORE HARM than good.

    I heartily agree.

I've been couponing for five years now, and after watching both the episode last year and last night, I would never in my wildest dreams even want to begin to think to do that. It's either buying low and reselling, severe OCD, or pure, outright greed.

All the couponers shown last night have couponed for 1-2 years. I'd love to see the statistics on extreme couponing for longer than that...I bet it's very rare.

The thing I don't like about the new show is that it's a huge misrepresentation of the majority of couponers. I don't shop like that. I've never known anyone or seen anyone IRL shop like that. I feel like as soon as anyone mentions the word "coupon", we're all being lumped together as collective nutjobs. As everyone on this board knows, there are different degrees to any activity. Couponing is no exception.

I don't flock to the store on double and triple coupon days. I live in LOND. The only doubles we get here are the not even worth the trip ones at Kmart occasionally.

Frequent shopper club cards? Yeah, never even heard of those. Is the author trying to say loyalty club cards? How crazy that someone would use a card to get the sale price!

Four hour trips? That would drive me batty. Let alone my DH who would be waiting in the car. Um no, that's why you have a list. Get in, get out. That's my objective when I shop.

And if I have to read One. More. Time. about an anti-couponer reviling all coupons as promoting junk and overprocessed foods, I'm going to scream. They focus on that one aspect of couponing with a death grip. And they call us crazy? Not once have I ever been tempted to eat my HBA stockpile. There is more to couponing than freakin' food. If you don't want to buy the food coupons are for, then don't!

This show has barely started and I am already extremely sick of it. I watched 2 episodes of it, and had my blood pressure through the roof knowing that in so many ways they and the stores were playing (and allowing) to the cameras. When a register beeps b/c of my coupon, it gets put aside and at the end all of the 'problem' coupons need a CSM to come over. I walk into my supermarket and people watch me (monster binder in the front of the cart), and have whispered (albeit, not so quietly) "I bet she's one of those extreme coupon people". I wish this show would just go to the land of bad shows and never come back.

if it's going through an aid program, why is it harmful?

Copied from article:“Extreme Couponing,” a fascinating yet deeply disturbing show returning to TLC on Wednesday night, is about a species of American consumer whose initial thrill at saving some money at the grocery store has triggered a new kind of crazy.

This is exactly how people are now going to percieve coupon users!
I use coupons because I need to save money!! I choose to only work part time so that I have plenty of me left for my family. Couponing helps me do that. If I stockpile it is just enough to hold me through the sales cycle.
SOOO worried about the problems these "extreme couponers" are going to cause for those of us who really need coupons to save money not to build up a stockpile and go on tv and basically say" My stockpile is bigger than yours"
