'All My Children': Will ABC Cancel the Long-Running Soap?



I use to watch this until approx. 3 years ago & then it kind of changed. I found it no longer interesting so I haven't watched it since. Still hard to believe that after all these years they will more than likely cancel it.

I hope they won't cancel it. Although I don't watch it anymore, I don't think it's worse than any of the other soaps still on. It really seems that the soap era has passed. It's just not the way it used to be.

I grew up watching the ABC soaps. I'm so old that I remember Ryan's Hope. Not to mention Loving before that went off the air. I miss the good old days of the cliffhangers on Fridays where you just couldn't wait until Monday to see what would happen. I think the end for me was when soaps started showing previews of upcoming episodes. There shouldn't be previews in soaps! What's the fun in that??

Well, I've rambled on long enough. Suffice it to say I will be sad if they cancel AMC. It was a big part of my childhood and gave me many happy hours. :)

Same here. I grew up watching all of the ABC soaps. Loved AMC, OLTL & GH. I do remember Ryans Hope (slightly) and Loving. Do you remember the spin off from GH. Night something I think, I slightly remember that.
Soaps just arent what they used to be. We would get hooked on one actor and then they would change it then once we became fans of them, they would change them back to the old actor.... Too much change. Plus some of the storylines nowadays are just plain crazy. Have you noticed how they have geared towards the younger crowd now? Too many teenage storylines going on I say.

Hey Jen are you talking about Port Charles? I loved that soap, it was a half hour show and spin off of GH.
I read in TV guide that they might make OLTL and AMC a half hour show to avoid cancellation

Yeah I remember that one, but there was another one that was on at night with Lucy and Mac and a few others from the day.

ABC Soaps In Depth is reporting, via Twitter, that All My Children is not being canceled and that Lorraine Broderick is being named head writer.

Well it looks like it is official: 'All My Children', 'One Life To Live' Canceled By ABC Will be cancelled as of 9/2011

It is so sad. I just read that they are working on revamping the whole daytime schedule of programming. You figure they will now have 1-2, 2-3, and 4-5 time slots open w/Oprah leaving too. I am so happy GH will still be on, I wonder if it will change time slots?

I'm sad to see it go but it's not at the moment my favorite. I'm going to boycott ABC in the afternoon. Not watching whatever they put in their place.
