I did find the ladys website who did it and she's on another competing coupon site. It shows her dumpster diving on the show and shopping she said . Not sure if I can post her website link but it's just a blog so maybe a mod can chime in on that. ;-) The show is called, Home Made Simple and has various people on it. She was just one of the people they show.
That was a different show than the one we're talking about. Sorry. Guess theres more and more shows about couponing.

Seriously, though, there are a lot of people who know what we do and what we get, and they still don't want to bother with it. How many complaints or eye rolls have we seen expressed on this board because friends and loved ones waste money despite one of us trying desperately to show them how to save with coupons? I would think the ease of information such as websites like this one would do more (and has done more) to make it popular than tv coverage. I think reality shows generally invoke more gawkery than genuine interest in participating in whatever activity or lifestyle is featured. I believe maybe some well intended folks may try it, but I expect a lot to lose interest or become overwhelmed just like the folks many of us have tried to help in our day to day lives. For sure, I don't think everyone watching will try it and stick with it.

Thanks for the smile, I needed it!

I'm on the fence about whether or not I'm concerned about it. I hear what smee is saying, but then again, these are different times. People are unemployed, broke and have the time to do this.

Hate to tell you Rachelle, things have changed greatly since 2006. I highly doubt this show will change things too much. If they are just scoring things in the grocery stores or drug stores, these people are minor leagues anyways.

    CVS

2006- Had a unlimited free month of items. Ended due to abuse.
2008 or 2009- Allowed super stacking. Ended due to abuse.

    Target

2006-2009- Could find clearance at 90%. Lucky to find it at 50% off these days.

    Rite Aid

2010 introduced Ups and xx/xx's. Due to abuse, Rite Aid has not produced many xx/xx.

    Blame the deal sites.

    Scoring deals on:

Travel--not that difficult. The cost of these services are dropping as the cost of basic needs are rising.

    Toys

Electronics-another item category deflating due to inflating basic need costs

Currency- working credit card deals for points and rewards, deals on gold and silver, circulating bank deals for opening bonuses, etc

Medical- working gift card deals for Rx, working with medical providers to lessen oop, etc. I know this is YMMV due to insurance.

It is using the skills in as many facets in one life. If one saves a lot in one area in their life and blow a ton is another, where are the savings?

I have been looking forward to seeing this show considering one of the shoppers is someone I "know" ("know" as in - never met IRL but met through HCW and interact with on FB)...... I don't think this show will be any harm to us couponers.

I'm looking forward to watching the show, too. I think the widespread abuse has had more of a negative impact than any tv show about couponing has. My mother couponed and "CVS hopped" (what we now call "rolling ECBs") for years when I was growing up. Occasionally there were articles and tv spots about couponing, but we didn't see a big upswing in other couponers in our area until the economy took a crap a couple of years ago. Now it is harder to find deals because of stricter limits, etc. but we do still find the deals. I think the Internet has made the information and matchup easier, but the Internet and deal sites were around long before we saw the upswing.

I will have to watch it just cause everyone that I tell in my area that I coupon they just laugh and say I could never keep track of them I don't know how you do it. I do have one friend that is a couponer but I learned from her.

    Playing of this a bit

Oh, you should have seem the terms of rebates in the 80's
WOW!!!! Talk about giving away the store, no date restrictions

Just give us a upc saying you have the product(and bought it at some point of it's existence) and we will be more than happy to give you 20 times what you paid

Oh, and you used coupons, oh well, we didn't know that since the receipts didn't match coupons up! Oh, granted the internet wasn't out there so you had to find the deals on your own, but seriously, the rebates were AWESOME

I just hope when this show airs they express the importance of SPECIAL ORDERING if you plan on hitting a store and buying 1,000 boxes of cereal!
Seriously, if my grandma goes into a store to get Raisin bran because they are $1 cheaper this week and she is on a fixed income and this damn yankee has beat her to the last box, YES I WILL BE PISSED and that is excessive.
