Default PBS Masterpiece Classic: Emma 1/24-2/7

Masterpiece | Emma | PBS

Emma Woodhouse (Romola Garai, Atonement) was born with the sun shining down on her. The radiant, privileged girl grows into a remarkable talent for matchmaking, as observed by her loving but disapproving father (Michael Gambon, Cranford) and childhood friend Mr. Knightley (Jonny Lee Miller, Endgame). When the decidedly less privileged Harriet Smith arrives, Emma meddles with fate to find her a match, until her flawless intuition is called into question. Dissuaded from more matrimonial predictions, Emma nonetheless continues to cheerfully contemplate superior men — and meets one of her own in the handsome, gleaming Frank Churchill. But after being so busy managing everyone else's heart, does Emma know her own? A fiercely funny new version of the Jane Austen novel, Emma was adapted by Sandy Welch (Jane Eyre).

I watched part 1 last Sunday and palnning to watch part II tonight. It is definitely one of the better versions of this much adapted Novel. I have one complain though, the actress who is playing Emma annoyingly reminds me of Alicia Silverstone..its the way she is speaking in character, all that lip pouting and excessive cheek to cheek smiling.

All in all, though, a good adaptation.

Darrrrnit. I missed the first part and really wanted to see this. Going to have to go research when or if they'll play it again.

OH YEAH! I watched last week. I cannot believe my 25 month old actually stayed asleep the whole time, so I had no interruptions. Escaping into that show for 2 hours was a needed vacation for me!

Mind you I do not have cable or satellite. So watching Masterpiece Theater even twice a year is a big deal for me!!!

I'm hoping my luck holds for tonight! I have to say I did really love when Gwenyth Paltrow did EMMA years (& years) ago...I thought it was great.

I completely forgot to watch the first part, and I was so psyched to see it! If anyone finds out when it replays, let me know. I'm gonna go pout now.
