Default Tell me about Mad Men

I don't have cable so have never watched the show. But my curiosity sure was roused when 90% of the current magazines I checked out of the library had some kind of raves about it.

In Time they gushed about wonderful meaningful silences that can be found in each episdoe, In Sept's Oprah the star of the show Jon Hamm talked about his favourite books.
The most intriguing artcle was in the current Vanity Fair which talked about the painstaking detail the show's creative takes in invoking the correct period detail: He once asked some appples to be removed from a set because back in early 60's the fruit doen't have the fake shine and perfect shape as the fruit of today.
And yes it has to be mentioned that Jon Ham is exquisitve. I always go weak in knees for that 50's-dad look: Short ,precise, hair shining with Brylcreem, aggresively clean shaved jaws and the.... Fedora hats. The pcitures in VF are a rare treat.

So any Mad Men fans here, if yes what you like about the show?

ME ME ME ME ME ME ME!

It is the BEST and most addictive show I have EVER watched. Its is entertaining, yet deep.

Rent or buy the first 2 seasons. Start from the begining and I promise you will never let go!

I LOVE the show. Lovelovelovelovelove it!

Personally, I love how different a show it feels from other TV dramas, it doesn't need the over the top moments for the situations to punch you in the gut and leave you reeling.

For example there's a scene during the 2nd season finale where one of the characters is having a conversation with another, it's in hushed tones, nothing over-dramatic. She says one sentence and you are absolutely floored. You are gutted and I still remember the exact sentence and how she said it. It was amazing.

And I love the whole look of the show. It is absolutely beautiful. The clothing, the furniture, every detail. Everything is perfectly 60s. I was born in the 80s, raised in the 90s, and I'm becoming an adult in the 00's. So it's incredibly different from everything I've ever experienced in my life. For me it's like being transported back in time to see this world that I'll never be able to truly experience. It gives me a little taste of what used to be.

The actors are fabulous, the writing is fantastic, everything is so great to look at, everyone is handsome and beautiful in their own unique ways. There's humor, there's drama. You really think about how the characters have evolved and began to change over the 60s.

The only problem for some people is the fact that the show is a slow burn, there's not action jam packed into every episode so some people find it to be boring from week to week. So a lot of people love renting whole seasons so they can watch episodes back to back.

I hope I didn't write too much it's just that I really love the show and think it's one of the best things I've ever watched. It's soooo good.
