Default Anyone else given up TV?

I'm making the call to Time Warner tomorrow. We're giving up cable TV. We're not going to switch to satellite either. We can't justify the expense & for the most part, we just don't have any interest in what's on these days. We have quite a few DVDs & of course, the library at our disposal, so we're not going completely TV free. So have any of you given it up? How did your kids cope? Our 8 year old doesn't know yet, but he soon will!

I don't own a tv at all. Haven't in 2 years. I can't justify cable/satellite and I only got 2 channels with the rabbit ears so I gave it to my parents for their kitchen. I don't miss it at all. If there is something I wanna watch I can watch it online or at a friends house. I don't have kids so can't help you there. It's just me and the 2 cats, and they don't seem to miss it either :)

I LOVE tv!

Well, I don't really WATCH it that much, but I am a news junkie. I have to have it on 24/7...

Although, I do watch MAD MEN and the Daily Show.

I LOVE T.V!!! But then again I have a brain injury that allows me to hear every little noise and that really hurts my head so I always have the TV on I can't sleep without it on!! My kids love it too, I love my kids but they get overwhelming at 11,10,and 8 so sometimes I am just like sit and watch t.v for a bit. don't get me wrong we go outside and play too but I need a little break now again... OH and I am a Law and Order JUNKY!!!

We turned off the satellite last year (my husband barely survived the transition!!). Now, we have over-the-air TV only but it actually has several channels since we live near a big city. We have the antenna hooked up to the computer to record shows for our daughter from public broadcast TV (Sesame Street, mostly) and we watch the news every now and then. And we found a way to watch soccer and other sports on the Internet for free, so my husband is happy again - and we're saving $80+ per month.

We currently don't have TV because the federal government in there infinate wisdom thought it would be a brilliant idea to make everyone convert to DTV. We used to live in kansas City and the DTV box worked brilliantly with rabbit ears.

Now we live in the boonies...three hours away. NO ANTENNA WORKS HERE. So my only choice will be going to the overpriced cable or to satellite.

We are surviving...but it's damn scary where tornado's run amok and ice storms come to not have television...so we have to find a solution...probably satellite.

I have lived quite happily for the past two years without a TV. It doesn't bother me! I'm a student and I just don't own one. If there is something I really want to watch, I can usually find it on the internet (like ABC full episodes or other networks) and on the plus side, I have more time to do things I NEED to do instead of wasting my time watching reality television!

Now, when I go home to visit, I get bored and watch the TV sometimes but it's something I can live without pretty easily.

We gave up TV for about 6 weeks last year when we moved into the new house, but it wasn't our choice. We were just waiting for the phone company to get their act together and get here so we could get the DirecTV hookup.

We survived, but we love tv, probably too much and it was horrible mostly because of the timing. We missed all of the season premieres!!

The kids were really fine with it as they had their favorite movies on videa - but dh and I missed it!!
