We wont be giving up cable any time soon. I dont watch much TV but DH loves his shows on HBO and discovery. The kids love nick and cartoon network. If down the road money is tight and we need to give up some things I would give up cable before internet.

We are surviving...but it's damn scary where tornado's run amok and ice storms come to not have television...so we have to find a solution...probably satellite.
But if the power is knocked out by a tornado or ice storm then no TV. We have a weather radio that plugs into the electrical outlet, charges itself and then defaults to battery when the power goes out. You can program it for your specific area by using codes related to your county. When a weather alert is issued for your county it alerts you with a tone. Nice to have in the event a weather emergency occurs at night while you are sleeping. Purchased it for $30 at the grocery store.

But I'll know they are coming...and I'll know if my daughters school is canceled.

Since we are having a tornado warning right now...we are listening to the weather radio...but it would drive you insane to try and sleep through it.....I normally during the tornado warnings sleep with the weather on the TV and just wake up every hour and so and see how it is going.

Oh I miss the news too....I don't like that the only news I hear is from yahoo.grrrr I don't like being that ignorant of what is going on around me...

I just wish we could get our local channels and pbs. don't need anything else....

As for cell phones. got a pay as you go, it costs me about $25 every three months. Means when i'm lost or really need to get ahold of DH I can.

As much as I love Food Network or the Science Channel...I just can't justify the cost of cable or satillite.

Right now I don't even have a TV plugged in. There is one somewhere in the closet, but I don't want to dig it out and everything. I like watching things on Hulu or Netflix when I do have a bit of spare time...

I watch a lot of tv shows on Hulu, ABC, Fox, etc. but the History channel and Discovery channel are very hard to watch online, so I'll keep my cable just for these 2 channels.

I really enjoy TV, but have not had cable for 10 years. I get the local channels and that is enough. I watch cable when I go to my parents house and am amazed how one can have 157 channels and there is still nothing on! I will stick to my DVD collection.

I like retro TV sitcoms (60's, 70's, 80's), and there's a good deal of that online (Hulu, etc.). I do hook my TV up to my cable modem, giving me a few channels with perfect reception for free, including The Food Network, Bravo, and USA.

Also, calling and saying you want to cancel is a good opportunity to bargain for a better rate. They'll transfer you to the retentions dep't and try to keep you as a customer with discounts and incentives.

I actually put off getting cable since moving in June. I did buy an antenna about a month ago. I get many channels on a digital tv, including most of the major networks except for ABC.

If you tv is digital enabled, just get an antenna. The one I bought was only like $10.

I am getting cable hooked up next week, though. I'm missing Real Housewives, Army Wives, CNN, and my Food Network shows.
