We just got rid of DishNetwork for this reason (and several others). We broke our contract to do it.

I am actually trying to switch back to directv. I have the issues with the rain and everything, but they have Sprout which is a 24/7 PBS station. My kids love it, and sadly, so do I!

We have Dish Network & it went out last night with the rain too. We were watching Dirty Jobs & they were getting ready to castrate a horse, totally missed the whole thing. Never fails-it always goes out when there's something interesting on. Anyway, we really don't have a choice though, cable doesn't run out this way, so it's either satellite or 4 channels.

We started with cable, but my hubby works for a TV station (in fact, is in charge of making sure it stays on air) and it came in crabby on our cable system. Kind of makes it difficult to figure out what is wrong when you can barely see the station when it running properly.

We switched to DirectTV and have the same problem with rain. It usually only happens when it is a torrental rain, not just a sprinkle. The good thing is that a heavy downpour usually only lasts minutes and then slows down, so we know we will be w/out for only a short while. You also can kind of expect it when the rain kicks up. With cable, it went out at any time, with no warning and could be out for hours or days. I much prefer our dish.

The major gripe I have w/Direct TV is the way they have steadly increased the price. We started at $53/month and are now up to $64/month. Of course, it has been three years- I didn't realize until I looked. And I have no idea how much cable is now, so we may still be getting a bargin.

I live in Seattle, and in about 5 years have only had our DirecTV go out about two times; each time it was very momentary.

But dangit they won't give us a DVR for free! We have the Sunday ticket; and a box in two rooms, that's alot of money for 5 years, but they still want us to pay $100 each for a DVR, plus $20 shipping. (But they'd install for free - why would there be installation and or/shipping, those two things should cancel each other out, duh?)

i know exactly how you feel. I am a what you call deal sniffer. LOL
They were running the special 4 free months of the best programming with purchase of nfl sunday ticket. They wanted me to pay 100 for a dvr. NO WAY JOSE! i ended up getting a dvr for free and never paid shipping. Amazing what the words "Well forget it then i will go to the other company because they offered me......." Oh and i got a 50$ visa gift card and a portable dvd player also :)

I wonder if it has to do w/ where you are in the US or the adjustment of the dish. We have Dish Network, but we also live in Salt Lake City, which has a pretty high altitude (closer to the satellite?) and ours never goes out. Several years ago we even had a storm big enough to destroy our roof - but we still had satellite. Then about 2 years ago, we started having the dish go out randomly - seemingly unrelated to weather. We called and they sent out a tech who put up a newer version Dish (ours was 6 or 7 yrs old by then), and realigned it and we are good to go again.

I quit dish about a month ago and went with directv the guy who installed me said that it was possibul the dish need to be readjusted as they change position from the wind and such. I was also given a code to get free programs from him. I pay about 29.99 per month and with the code 54996 I got free HBO and also a free sportspass preview for the hubby.
