There was a case recently in my area where a kid had been drinking at the bar with his girlfriend, decided they had had too much to drink to drive, so they walked home. On the way a drunk driver plowed into them. He was killed pushing his girlfriend out of the way. It made me so mad--he had done the right thing and didn't endanger others by driving.

It also reminds me why I avoid driving on friday and saturday nights.

Thanks for sharing this poem. I've read it before but it touches my heart everytime someone posts it somewhere.

Thank you for all of your responses. Yesterday I was at Chuck e cheese celebrating a birthday and afterwards my family came to my house to continue the party. Well everyone stayed until about 2am, but I kept them entertained until about 5am so they wouldn't leave around bar closing time which is at 2am here and also because I live a few blocks from where this happened.

Also, as a law student the time he got for her death really disappointed me. With good time he can be out in 2 1/2 year, when he'll finally be at the legal drinking age. I just don't get how the criminal justice system could have failed someone so bad. He had already been caught drinking underage and some times it included driving as well. And I really don't hear any politician trying to amend any of the laws that exist for drinking & driving.

It's funny how small the world is because some of DH's friends knew the guy and they told us that he had already wrecked a car because of drinking and driving and his parents just bought him another one.

I know there is another thread around here about "Meanest mom," so think about this stuff when you parents feel guilty or question your judgment/instinct:)

The law seems to fail everyone these days. I know the guy who did his crap to me, and took away my whole childhood and more, only got 2 years. I did 5 years in placement for the crap he put me through . Funny how things work. I am sorry for your loss, and may that guy live with what he did everyday as I'm sure it will haunt him everyday. My best friend D was driving after getting into a fight with his dad, and his friend was with him, they were doing 115 on a country road. Well D survived and Craig didn't. D spent lots of time in the hospital, he had to learn everything all over. It eats at these people everyday, and I know 99% if it were their choice they would have died rather than the victim. It still doesn't make it right, but I promise you they will go through a personal hell the rest of their lives.
Car accidents are so scary, I have been in 2, and a drive by (by far the scariest!) Still have the newspaper article, made 1st page, the bullet got lodged in our windshield. I have lost so many people to car accidents, it never gets easier. It is one of the most tragic ways to lose people. You are in my prayers, and may Becca be looking down on you from heaven above!
