I read the obituaries. I like reading about people's lives, how many kids they had, etc.

An interesting one still sticks with me--it was about a woman born in 1917. Her obituary stated that as an infant she was carried in her mother's arms as her family walked over the mountains from the Soviet Union into China to escape the Communists. The family made their way to Shanghai where she was raised and lived through the Japanese occupation. After World War II she married an American Serviceman and they moved to America, where she raised four children as a military wife -scout leader, Sunday School teacher and all that- and she died a few years ago around age 90. Wow, what a life!!!

I live in a large city, so I don't read all of them, but I will not recycle my paper until I've scanned the list of names.

I remember seeing my friends name in there once & we rushed to his house & of course there were others there too. They were laughing & chatting in the yard & in the street. I couldn't help but think they should be more respectful. Then my friend came running out of the house laughing. Wrong Dave.

ETA: Clarifying - This wasn't an actual obit, but in the paper. He had been shot & was the same age & lived in the same city.

One of my favorites is: "Dave" has gone home to receive his heavenly reward.

Are you designing your very own god...
or is God designing His very own you?

Something like that happened to us we were watching the news one night and a person with the same exact (uncommon) name as my dh lived in the same city was the first person to die in 20xx. Well my dh went to work the next day and all his coworkers thought they were seeing a ghost and thought my dh had passed cause they heard his name on the news.

Sometimes i get curious and read the obits too.

I read the obits too....I hate when they say "expired." Just doesn't sound respectful to me. When it's a young person I wonder what happened. Just this morning I read of a 14 yrs old boy died....I went on to read the rest of the paper and there was an article in another section of the paper about the boy. He had been brain dead for months and big conflict with hospital cuz they wanted to take him off life support. In the end, his parents took him home.
As for weddings, most of the ones here are for bragging...
I was wedding coordinator for our church and I did a wedding once where the dog was the ring bearer....the marriage went to the dogs...they were divorced within a year..
