Default Do you have to help cashiers?

I have noticed this more and more. They forget to ring my coupons. I always give the coupons first because many of the stores I shop in require this. Then they set the coupons aside and don't ring them up. The first time I noticed this was in the van. I checked the receipt. And sure enough he had not entered them. There were only about $1.50 in coupons. It was pouring down rain and cold and we were hungry. We hadn't eaten dinner yet. So I let it slide.

But now I check each time. And pretty much most of the time they forget to ring in the coupons. And that's at several different stores.

They also forget to give me credit for using my own bags. Today we went to Target and I realized that I had left the two bags that I had in the van. One bag is bad. Doesn't hold very much. I threw one out after the last time we were there because it had some odd stain on it and it also ripped. Not sure where my really good Target bag is. It's off white canvas with the red logo on it. Very thick and sturdy and washes like a dream. Anyway... I decided to just buy more bags. Which I did.

Clerk asked me if I was buying them or if they were mine? Even though they still had the tags on them. Then not only did she not give me credit for using the bags she said she didn't know anything about it. She tried to ask some other cashiers but nobody was paying attention to her. So I pointed to the red sticker on the register and said they normally scan that. So she did. And she did it three times because I had three bags. But other times in this store and others, they have only given me credit for one bag even though I have many. I have even told them... You're supposed to give me the 5 cents or 30 cents or whatever that store gives per bag!

It's getting frustrating. The cashier today said she didn't know and she was new. I'm sure with the holidays coming up there will be a lot of new people. I just have to keep watching them like a hawk I guess.

Places really don't take the time to train employees anymore. A lot of times people are being trained by people that haven't even worked at the business that long.

I always hate when I take the time to put my coupons with the item to make it easier on the cashier and then they just collect them and put them in a pile to save till last. Then they have to go back and look up the price of an item because it is a q for a free item. You would think they would learn, but they don't. I just feel like telling them, I was trying to make your job easier. I really hate it when the system doesn't take a coupon or they need to verify something on the product and then they expect you to go digging for that product out of the bag when all that could of been elliminated if they would have scanned the coupon with the product. I've even told cashiers at Wal-mart that the CSM told me to give the coupons with the product so problems wouldn't arise and the cashiers still insist on ringing them up last. I just want to yell to them, "See, I told you so!!!!"

I once had a coupon that beeped and the cashier just told me I didn't buy the right item. Clearly I did. It looked exactly like the picture on the coupon and it was the correct number of ounces. She wasn't going to let me have it but I argued and then she called her supervisor who also didn't want to let me have it but couldn't find anything wrong with it. So eventually they let me use it.

I've noticed when I a coupon for a free product and they have to enter in the price-9 times out of 10, they will stand there and scan it and scan it and not understand why nothing is coming off. I usually have to tell them they need to print the journal, look up the price and enter it manually.

I have to tell WinnDixie cashiers how to do a duplicate crt. Guess it's something they do infrequently.

I find myself explaining Publix rules at my good store - nearly every time I shop. Ie,,,expired store q's for 30 days and which competitors are on their store card list. Usually I just show them their pre-printed policy card.

Kind of gets funny sometimes. Especially when a customer behind me reminds them I know their rules better than they do.

Unfortunately it's the same cashier week after week I am training as a customer that knows the rules.
Sometimes I feel like I need the paycheck for training em.

I had a catalina for $1.50 off of a pkg. of any tp which I coupled with another coupon, for Angel Soft. The cashier gave it back to me because it had a picture of Cottonelle on it, and she said I couldn't use it. When I got home, I looked, and sure enough it said "any." I took it back to the store with my receipt and got the money back.

I do watch very carefully. When Tops had a promotion for "dollar doublers" they didn't double my coupons. I usually stall after I check out to check my receipt.

Cashiers are human. Everybody makes mistakes, and just a simple reminder at the end of the transaction is simple enough. If you have the coupons you have to remember to hand them over, so just remind them that you have coupons. It can be simple, and I am usually trying to have a conversation with them anyways, and being polite. If I have bags, I remember to remind them, or ask if they gave me the credit.

Especially at this time of year, they are swamped and are dealing with a lot of people who are less than cordial. It always pays to be a bit more polite, or just remind them, simple enough, and everybody leaves happy rather than upset because something didn't go the way they wanted.

I used to shop at Whole Foods Market. They had one cashier there, that was so incredibly SLOW, that I quit going in her lane. I would even join a longer line, just to avoid going through her lane. I would never make a complaint about it to the management, but I absolutely refused to check out with her. She was just too darn SLOW and I don't have all day.

ITA. I run into this at chain stores a lot, especially Target. I have to remind them to scan for the reusable bag credit, remind them if I have coupons, and double-check the prices when they scan items.

I used to work retail and understand that things can get hectic and you can forget, but this happens so often it makes me wonder.

I had one cashier crumple up my Qs after scanning them in, like he was going to toss them after. I said to him, "Don't y'all have to send those in to get credit back for the coupon?" He sat there stunned, looked at a coupon seeing the remit address and went, "Ooooh... yea, probably."

I haven't seen that cashier since then. All the others put them nicely in their little folders. I guess he didn't get the memo?
