    I think all apples at the store taste"different" but agree that bagged are worse. But I grew up eating fresh apples and still do,in season. During the off months when I have to buy at store I am bothered by the 'chemical' taste. That does make a difference. I can not stand that coating on some of the fruit. UGh
    And this year our local orchard crop failed due to weather. So no yummy local apples. UGH!!!

    I buy loose Fuji. I only like fuji. Fuji rocks!

    Problem with bagged is half of them are rotten.

    I've read what supersavory said - a lot of the apples we buy are stored from months ago.

    I do buy bagged apples from Sam's Club - they are high but they are always good and very flavorful and juicy. I also buy occasional loose apples on special when I need fruit for lunches and if it smells really good.

    But OP you are spot on about the taste and not just for apples either.
