Default would you drive 45 min for a good deal?

Locally, I have a Giant Eagle, Walmart, Sav a lot and Aldi's. Would you drive 45 minutes once a month to go to a store that ALWAYS has rock bottom prices? I'm thinking about doing this, but not sure if I should with the price of gas. This place has the lowest prices around everyday. They don't take IP or double coupons, but the prices are really good. Like cheese shreds for 2.00, Prego for 1.39, 10 pounds of potatoes for 2.69, progresso soups for .99. I don't know, as I type this in, I think I'm talking myself into it
Some of you experts might have a better insight though than myself. Sometimes I get a little carried away.

Yes, I do it every week. One hour each way. You have to be prepared with list and coupons. I take 2 coolers with me. There are very few weeks when it does not justify the cost of gas.

here in 2 weeks....i will have to drive 30-45 each week just to get to regular stores.

try to make more of a store trip than just one. plan out your route and then you wont feel like it is such a waste. that is what i do. and hear shortly i will have a cooler in my car for cold stuff to keep it colder longer.

I wouldn't. Unless there was more to the trip than groceries.
I'm surprised that you don't find good enough prices at Aldis or Walmart - and doesn't Giant Eagle double coupons? (I have a Kroger, not sure how similar they are).
A 45 minute trip in my van would use about 4 gallons of gas probably (assuming that's 70-75 miles round trip. It might be more).
I'd have to justify $15 in gas plus my time...

Back in the mid 80's I used to drive 40 miles to go to a grocery store that doubled coupons, no limit on # of coupons ("like" or total used). The reason I did so was because it was in another county and it was much cheaper overall than the county I was living in.

I didn't go weekly, just twice a month. It would be a big trip but saved a fortune both on the price of goods and the ability to double coupons.

Absolutely worth it for me then.

For you I guess it would depend on the overall price differences and how big a grocery haul you made. I don't think I'd do it weekly, especially at the price of gas now, even with a car that gets good gas mileage. And if they accept coupons or even double them, a big grocery run would absolutely pay off!

I already have to ...it is either 30 minutes one way or 45 one way depending which big town I go to....and I go once a month to every 6 weeks an hour one way to get good sales IF the HyVee had awesome prices on some things (Like the 10% all meat in a sack deal a while back). I'm more limited than you, I have Walmart and Target (NOT a super Target so only some groceries) and a couple little stores that are local owned that don't do much for sales.

For me I would, but maybe every 6 weeks instead of once a month.

I drive 30/40 minutes one way to get to kroger for mega sales. But I have my trip all plained out and get A LOT at one time. I use about $15 in gas but save waaay more than that so its worth it to me..I could price match at walmart but krogers doubles coupons so its worth it for me to drive..now if I only have a few coupons and items to get I would just price match it..but saving $100 or $200 with double coupons and only spending $15 on gas is so worth it to me.

If that store has a sales ad I would see if I could price match instead of driving since they dont double coupons ect.

Giant Eagle and Walmart seem to equal out in price. So the fuel perks tips me into the GE. I've had trouble with bugs from our Aldi's so I try not to get anything but canned stuff there. I really haven't been to Sav alot in a long time, maybe I'll have to look into them a little more closely. The store is really only 30 miles away but it's all mountain road to get there. I guess I could combine it with Christmas shopping and layaway payments at Kmart for now. Where we used to live we had to drive 24 miles just to get a grocery store of any kind. So, I just may do that next month. Maybe I can talk my sis into going with and splitting gas. LOL

I do it about once or twice a month...but I try to justify the gas...as I have other reasons to go there.

The store that I go to doubles the coupons though....and I live in the boonies.

So if you went...You would want to make sure that you had came home with a ton of stuff LOL! Or had other reasons to go out that way. IMO.
