My mom died this morning but not before suffering from COPD (and a host of other ailments) as a result of smoking. It was horrible to observe her struggle for air and be able to do nothing to bring her comfort.

PLEASE, if you smoke do everything in your power to stop. I know it's incredibly difficult but if you can't do it for yourself do it so your children or grandchildren aren't tempted to try smoking because "Mom" or "Dad," "Pawpaw" or "Grandma" does it.

Do it so you don't suffer needlessly as you lose every bit of independence, dignity and pride you may have had.

Please, do it NOW.

And if you don't smoke NEVER, ever try it.
