Yeah, 18 times suspended i rediculous! No way that driver should have had his license after the 3rd time.
I read in the local paper about a drunk driver that hit a parked police car (no officers in car) and the article ended with this:
"The driver has a record of drunken driving convictions and 18 driver’s license suspensions. . . "
I don't get how someone with that kind of record would EVER get their license back! ????
Is it a judge that allows this??? I don't get it!!

did they say they actual had a license at the time of the accident? or was his drivers license still suspended?

I get that a lot of people drive without licenses. People do all sorts of stupid things. As long as they are only endangering themselves, I'm all for letting natural selection do its thing. It's why I think helmet laws are overreaching, but not car seat laws. When it poses risk to others, I need more than, "well, people do it, anyway, so might as well let 'em." I'm ok with people needing basic qualifications to barrel down the highway in a high speed people cage made of metal. Or whatever they're making cars out of these days.
Anyway, it was just a tongue in cheek kinda sorta but not really related tangent.

There should be harsher punishment for drunk driving..It is sad that there isn't. If you are old enough to drink you are old enough to know the dangers and should be sent right down the river your first offense..Not given several chances to kill someone!
I had a friend *who is notorious for driving after having consumed alcohol* that was actually mad at another friend who posted on her FB that she followed a drunk driver and called the police on them..It was her thought that this girl should have minded her own business..

Oh, I'll snitch on a drunk driver quickfast. I once had the cops meet my father in his driveway (that's just where they happened to catch up with him) when I learned he was driving home drunk. If I'd had the chance, I'd have ripped the keys from his hands, myself. He was a CDL truck driver and ultimately lost his license and his job since it wasn't his first offense. Oh, well. Zero tolerance here. Drink yourself to death at home all you want. I think drunk driving is a special kind of selfishness.

We had a drunk driver in Nebraska (can't remember the town) who had 12 DUIs and one day he was driving down a road and at the side of the road was a young mother and her two small children, one in a stroller the other one walking. He hit the mother and killed her, pulled over and tried to con the older child into lying about what had happened. Last I knew he STILL wasn't in jail. Oh, and a police office wasn't far behind him and knew what had happened, didn't see it specifically but showed up minutes later.
My daughter works in a motel, he was in court in the town where she works and he stayed in her motel. He was trying to con (only word for it) his way through explaining why he did what he did. He was in court for a totally different thing (a diff drunk driving charge I think). I don't know what he got for the murder of the mother. But I was irate and am still irate that he wasn't in JAIL to begin with and to have any vehicle at hand....just wrong!
